I am now hopeful that the replacement "brand" will be smart enough to let Canucks play in US dollars. I would have had a Bodog acct if not for that.

Expecting folks here to read is the equivalent of Shemp inviting you to his crib in Estonia.

Surely it would just transfer to the new brand operated by Mohawk. It sounds like the end-of-year is a rebranding rather than a 'closure' in the sense people here seem to be reading it as.
Sounds like a name change to cleanse the Bodog name. For players it appears nothing will change except the name on the website. The same company managing the US and Canada will still be managing the US and Canada with the US getting a fresh name. Probably could have skipped this announcement.

would be no reason to "cleanse" anything if they didn't know the end was near. they want to be absolved of debts when the final domino falls.

Update: Bodog is only changing their domain name for US players. No wagering tickets will be lost or in any way affected.

It's all good doylfish. When that Bill Beatty guy on CalvinAyre.com said "we understand that MMGG will launch under it's own brand in 2012", I interpreted as that's what the guy heard/thought but didn't have confirmation yet on the details of how it was going to happen. But Becky posted on her Twitter a bit later to say that it'll just be a clean transition. Drop one name, add another. So your futures are fine

stolen,
Calvin Ayre announced this morning that the Bodog Brand is leaving the US. Most players took this to mean that Bodog is leaving the US but that’s not really the case. Over the past few years the Morris Mohawk Gaming Group’s (MMGG) has been licensing the Bodog name and will continue to operate the poker and sportsbook under a new name come January 1st, 2012. We realize this is a bit confusing but for you as a player the only change will be the name of the site. All deposits/withdrawls, support and software has been operated by MMGG. in other words Bodog has had nothing to do with the site other then have it’s name on it for the past 5 years.
So to recap, the only change you will see is the name of the site. Here’s what Calvin had to say “It will mean the end of the Bodog era in the US but Morris Mohawk Gaming has been operating the brand in the US Market for the past 5 years so other than a name change it should be business as usual for US players”. There is no reason to fear this change.
For those of you who have been around for a while this is exactly like when Poker.com switched to PDCPoker.com because their leasing agreement with the owners of Poker.com expired. All that changed was the name of the site but play continued as usual.

Bodog not changing their name....the claim is Mohawk are choosing a new name because bodog won't let them use theirs anymore and Bodog never was Bodog in reality just a cover name for a different company. Realistically though Bodog backed Mohaw and made sure they paid and helped them make a name in exchange for large amounts of $. Now without Bodog watching over Mohawk they are no different than a new startup book..... to be approached with extreme caution.

I'm not so sure this is *just* a name change.
FTFA:
However, in order to ensure the brand’s expansion is not affected by negative perceptions, both in the UK and elsewhere in emerging markets such as Asia, where Bodog88 is already successful, a decision has been made to withdraw the Bodog brand from the US market at the end of 2011. As a result, the Morris Mohawk Gaming Group’s (MMGG) brand licensing agreement will be allowed to expire on 31 December, following which US residents will no longer be able to access bodog.eu or any other Bodog branded website. We understand that MMGG will launch under its own brand in 2012, licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission. All Bodog.eu clients’ funds will remain safe and they will have the option to switch to a new MMGG brand should they wish but MMGG confirms it’s business as usual.
It does also list later in TFA that it's just a name change. I would just like some clarification on what *specifically* is happening.

It just means that they are going to change names like Cris did which is no shock to me at all. I wish sportsbook.com or BetUs would have been the ones that left the US Market.

It is just a name change. SBR spoke to Bodog mgt yesterday on this very subject.
I wonder if Bodog Becky will still be attending the Bash in Costa Rica?
Apologies for the late reply here, I was just traveling back from Ayr, Scotland! Yes, I am still attending the Bash in Costa Rica and will be covering the event for CalvinAyre.com- I am really looking forward to it!
Looks like SBR has cleared things up for everyone...the Bodog brand has decided to focus its growth in other regions outside of the US, especially after receiving a UK license. The MMGG has a vast amount of experience in the US market and wanted to continue to offer its customers the same trusted service, all be it under a new brand.
Essentially, MMGG is rebranding- that is it!
Thanks,
Becky

How many times do I have to tell you peole that off shore gaming is finished in the U.S. It is just a matter of time before the Feds shut everyone down. I have been saying this for over two years now, and I have yet to be proven wrong.
