Nash I agree with your argument that the ball wouldnt have gotten Bonds HR money
I disagree that any of these guys other than A-Rod get to 3000 though. Especially Vlad.
Even Damon imo only has one more year left and that wont get him there
    Vlad gets to 3000.
    Easy

He's played every game this year, 150 games last year.
    He'll have 2600 by season's end.
Gets 480 + at bats every year
    Just turned 36.
He averages like 180 hits a year, (do the math) actually it's 195 but I prorated it down, O's love his leadership, I read where contenders are very interested in case they do want to move him, if he plays 150 games next year, and he should, that puts him close to 2800.

If he doesn't break a leg when he does play the field, or trips over first base and pull something, Vlad gets to 3000 at age 39.

He's a professional hitter, loves to swing the bat, and from what I've seen, that bat of his isn't slowing down.

            He needs 500 more hits.
He's 36 with a bad back. I dont think he has the 3 years left that he would need to get there.
I like Vlad, just dont see it happening.

15 mil base for 2011, paid monthly, divided by 12 = 1.25 mil per month, or about 300K a week.

Kid will regret it years from now when he's in his late 30s and 40s. Trust me....everyone regrets a thing or two. But he'll regret this for life when he's a few dollars short.

148 posts and not a single suggestion of keeping the ball for himself? Not saying that would be smart or dumb, just surprised no one mentioned it. He would have to put it in a safe deposit box to keep the theives from getting it but it is a piece of memorabilia I would like to have as a baseball fan. 5 or 10 years from now when the ball is no longer a big deal, he could keep it on display in his home.

I do agree with the post about how the Yankees are making a ton of money off the hit and he probably should have got his share of that. I love the idea of Yanks donating to charity or college fund. 2 best posts in the whole thread. IMO

Facts are the kid did what he thought was right. No shame in that.
10 years from now he may regret that he didn't get a little more than he did for the ball, but there is no need to get on the his case for it. He didn't break any laws.

I hope he enjoys the games and I hope the yanks honor any requests for him to go to a couple of games a year in the future. They know they made out well in the deal. All the suites and memorabilia didn't cost them much at all.

Like I pointed out yesterday, he wasn't going to get Bonds home run ball money, not even a fraction, that ball was/is like a Honus Wagner rookie card, once in a lifetime.

Damon will get to 3K, so will Rodriquez, Vlad is a lock, 3000 hits is special, but not ground breaking, in this market, people who have the money to pay for such items, aren't.

Bottom line, kid doesn't want anything for the ball, so be it, get off his dik.
OK 3000 has been done before but how many of those baseballs are in existence (General population- homerun) ? 2. Wade Boggs and Derek Jeter.

Some rich Yankee fan/ sports collector would pay 500k or more, easy.

There were hundreds of people around the kid, you'd need a witness.
You'd have to single out the person (s) who allegedly coerced you.
Once you can't do that, because it never happens, then comes the civil suit on your ass.

The idiocy on these boards at times astounds me.

You really think people will stop going to Yankee games because some 'Einstein' that posts on a message board tried to extort cash from the Yankees on false allegations?

that ball prob would have sold for about 300K tops before taxes... he could sell those suite tickets all season long, possibly into the play-offs and world series, and would come up ahead big time.

Speaking of taxes.....It seems these seats would be considered as taxable income ( ?).

This kid will probably give away all the tickets to his "friends" and then owe some huge tax bill next year.

Catching that ball has the potential to be a curse for this dummy. He should have at least kept for a couple days to consider his options.

                                        About that...

As a 23-year-old cell phone salesman, Christian Lopez had thousands of reasons to hold out for the highest bidder on the baseball from Derek Jeter's(notes) 3,000th hit. In fact, some estimates put the ball's worth at $250,000, money that the recent graduate from St. Lawrence University could have certainly used.

Does the ball go to the HOF, jeter's mantle or the NYY ?

I assume it goes to Jeter or maybe the HOF.

Why would the yankees even give the Fatass the tickets if they don't get the ball ?

.....maybe the tickets are too high-priced to be saleable ?

That guy will owe a ton of taxes on this.

He looks slightly taller than Jeter, and I think Jeter is a good 6-3

This guy must be 400 lbs.

Professional hitter is one who goes 50 for 156 in 7 world series 38 games (.321) against World Series pitchers like Maddux, Smoltz, Glavine, Randy Johnson, Schilling, Beckett, Cole Hamel and Cliff Lee.

                                                      Idiot

That's what's meant by professional hitter asshole, not some middle infielder puke who goes 5-23 in a stupid June 4 game series.

Now I could explain what a 'professional pitcher' is to you, but it would go over your retarded 4th grade mentality.

Get some intelligence, then come at me, asshole.
