Recieved call that one of my best friends died in Iraq
What a wake up call for me this July 4th weekend. One of the members of my close group of friends growing up was killed Wednesday in Iraq. He was the captain of a squadron in the army, and his vehicle was hit with missile fire. Died on the way to the hospital. This is easily the closest person that I have ever lost....I guess in that aspect I have been lucky throughout my 29 years.

Be careful while out there celebrating your July 4th weekend boys...and remember why we are celebrating, and especially who we are celebrating.

We already had a scare with him about 4 years ago. Suicide bomber hit him and left a bunch of shrapnel in his body. But of course....he healed up and went right back into action. Tough as nails, was always that guy back in school too. He was the member of our group that was the responsible and dependable one.....those are always the ones that go early.

sorry to hear that WV. my brother has been there and afghan 5 times now over the last 8 years. he has 2 young kids and a wife and it is not a comfortable year when i know he is away from home. i struggle to realize why we are over there all the time. and why the same people? how many troops do we have? i mean my brother for example. its more than every other year, for a year at a time. hes barely home for a year and then they ship him off again. dont we have enough troops to give more than a year in between?

My hat's off to him Jeff. I understand what you mean....Dave did not have any children to have to leave behind. But then again, its sad that he never got to experience fatherhood, and will not leave any children behind to carry on his legacy. Those are all things he would've cherished.

My thoughts go out to your family and brother over the weekend. Hope he comes home soon.

My wife served 4 years as a nurse and I served for 12 myself. My sincerest condolences to you WV and your family. Agree or disagree with the whats going on over there, the sacrifices these men and women make everyday should not be forgotten.
