The processes of the trojan have to be killed first, running it in safe mode doesn't change that.

#39You are in the last stages B4 your computer completely fails.
Run your computer in safe mode as much as possible. Useless background processes stress your RAM, and hard drive to the point of exhaustion.
You can download to free stuff, or buy ESET AntiVirus. Its the real deal, and will cleanup any mess that is fixable.Comment -

#40Yep. That happens with that virus as well. You are going to need to download and run a free program called unhide after you get rid of the virus to bring back the icons and files and everything else the virus made invisible.Originally posted by Bob LoblawWell, it stopped all the pop ups and warnings but everything seems to be missing. My background turned red and the only 2 icons on my desktop are recycle bin and Internet Explorer. I would guess I had around 50 icons earlier today. I can't find programs like firefox, sbr poker, etc anywhere on my computer

#50Just a heads up, if all you did was a scan with malwarebytes, you probably still have the virus. That is all I did at first at first, it found the virus and got rid of it, but within a few hours it was back. I would recommend doing the three steps I mentioned to give you the best chance of getting rid of it for good. Like I mentioned, I had that same virus just a couple weeks ago and it was frustrating as hell. Just wait for the random audio to start playing over your speakers, which will be coming soon if the virus isn't gone completely.Comment -

#54damn bob i got this same thing a couple of weeks back. do what 70kg man said and it should be ok. it was a tough virus to get around though. i even thought like you did and almost made a thread on sbr asking for help. i sat on google for a couple of hours before i came across a solution . yup it completely hides your hard drive files and makes you believe that your disk has failed .
i wonder if some 15 year old dipshit on sbr is sending us these viruses...

#55Hey Bob, Sorry you're having trouble bro, here's a great free anti virus program. Download it and run it immediately. Make sure you re-start your computer after you run it.
Next, sounds like your system is loaded with nasty spyware and or malware. In addition to the Malwarebytes program, download and run Spybot Search and Destroy, also free and picks up a lot of stuff other anti virus/spyware programs miss.
Spybot offers a unique technology for your security. Far beyond antivirus Spybot searches and destroys unwanted software and protects your privacy.
Finally make sure you have a secure firewall to protect you from inbound as well as outbound internet traffic. The one that comes with windows sucks! Download this free one from Zone Alarm and keep bullshit viruses from installing on your system in the first place. After you install this firewall, make sure to go into windows security and turn microsoft windows firewall off, so the two don't conflict with each other.
Find cutting-edge security solutions for your devices, including next-gen antivirus, firewall, anti-ransomware, anti-phishing, safe browsing, & more.
Remember to restart your computer after each installation and after each scan. Give these a shot and let me know how it works out. I've got a few other ideas if you're still having trouble. Also, remember to keep Windows and any software you're using, like Adobe Reader, Flash or Media Players up to date, you'd be surprise how viruses sneak in through outdated and un-patched software. I've got another program that will scan and check your system for programs that could be at risk or outdated. Good luck man!

#57Once a computer becomes infected it's difficult to fully remove the problem. It is possible but most of time just re-installing your operating system is the best course of action.
That being said people have differing levels of security needs. Gamblers are more vulnerable than the general public and should learn/get more protection.
These links have helped me:
Computer Security for Poker Players (videos) - Computer Technical Help - Software and Hardware ForumHere's my series on Computer Security for Poker Players. I try to cover every route that could lead to hacking. I hope some people learn from this. My
Ideally you would want to do everything in the link but it's doubtful everyone will.
My suggestion would be to at least do a fresh install of whatever operating system
Download
1) ZoneAlarm
2) Malwarebytes
3) Avira
4) Firefox + noscript+adblockplus+ web of trust (optional)
5) Run as a limited user account 99% of the time invoking admin when you have to install something safe
6) Learn what constitutes a good password
7) Run router with encryption, mac addresses, disabled upnp, hide ssid
Update all your software, operating system and run AVIRA/MALWAREBYTES/Windows Defender (last optional) once a week (once every 2 weeks if you're really stretching it)
The most important security is user behavior however. Stop downloading shit off the internet, stop opening weird e-mail attachments, if you need porn go to flash video sites running noscript (spankwire, youporn etc.)
That being said there's nothing you can really do against a talented hacker but it's not an excuse to do nothing.Comment -

#61You can set it up for automatic updates. I have mine configured to run at start up. It's a great firewall, when you first install it, you will get a pop up windows asking to you allow or not allow programs to run, it will also ask you if you want to allow internet access for incoming and outgoing programs. There is an option to tell Zone Alarm to "remember this setting", once it learns your system of what you want to allow to run on your computer, the pop ups will stop, unless something nasty tries to access your system. Great utility to have in this age of malware, spyware, and all the other scary shit out there just waiting to invade your computer.Originally posted by I/OMike Want to install Zone Alarm on "her" computer. #62You're right DG, Combofix can be a great program, if you know how to use it correctly. You can however, seriously fuk up your registry if you make changes or delete something required for windows to run properly. I recommend backing up your registry before using combofix, so should something go wrong, you can revert back to the original settings.Originally posted by darkghostI use combofix too and it works like a charm.
