you know what is really interesting. I noticed this during certain shots in the middle of the race. If you view the race from a near head on view notice how Tale of Ekati is running way wide off the rail. Most horses race closer even if 2 wide but he was a good 4-5 wide minimum which forced BB even further off. If there ever was a conspiracy theory that would be it. There was no reason for Ekati to be running that wide during the entire race.
Was Big Brown doped? When do they release the drug tests?

#37Dutrow throws jockey under the bus
Trainer Rick Dutrow Jr. still blames Kent Desormeaux for Big Brown's stunning last-place finish in the Belmont Stakes, but he wouldn't object to the jockey riding the horse in his next race. The decision of whether to change jockeys is up to co-owner Michael Iavarone, Dutrow said.
"I don't want to hurt anyone, especially Kent," Dutrow told the Associated Press on Tuesday morning in his barn at Aqueduct. "But I still don't understand what happened. I don't see the horse with a problem, so I have to direct my attention toward the ride. That's all I can come up with."
Dutrow insisted Tuesday he had found nothing wrong with Big Brown. "Maybe next week if something starts going wrong with the horse, then I'll understand everything," he said.
Dutrow added: "As long as the horse stays the way that I see him right now, then things are just going to keep building up for me to know that it was the ride that did him in."
He said he hadn't spoken to Desormeaux, but "if he calls me I'll talk to him, sure."

#39I was at BetCris today and asked if anything smelled foul in the race. They are very sure it was "just horseracing".
I watched the race a few more times and I have to agree. At least I dont fault the ride as the primary reason he lost. It was a bad ride but not bad enough to keep a 1-4 horse from challenging.
The 1st qtr was rough, no doubt about that. But by the 1st turn in a mile and a half race BB is running in clean air. As a poster mentioned he was taken a little wide but still no biggie. Also, think about it. The pace setter was not a pace setter he was the race winner. Even in hindsight its hard to fault the ride. So its was a rough qtr but the jokey got his horse wide open space with a mile+ to run and the horse didnt run.Comment -

#41The jockey blaming the start, the trainer blaming the jockey, the bookmakers "chalking it up" to the sport (pun so intended), I don't think any of these questions will ever be answered definitively. Such is the beauty of having an opinion I guess.Comment -

#42If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...IT'S A DUCK!
HE HAD A QUARTER CRACK...He didn't have it for any of his previous races...GEE I wonder?????
The further into the race , the more he has to start to feel it. A smart horse will often protect himself by not running hard...it all makes sense to me.Comment -

Dick, perhaps your horse isn't what you though it was - did you ever think of that as a possible reason? Perhaps we can get Denny Green in here to lecture you on the concept.Comment -
