It's Tyler Wilson to start. Big edge starting wise to UVA. Dixon Anderson for Cal. Bullpens obviously are gonna come into play tonight. Pens are pretty even as Cal's really is their strength and the Cavs have been good all season. Despite Cal's little explosion against A&M, their offense is still not great from top to bottom. Virginia has the better, more potent offense but they MUST get the big hits early to break this open a bit. Anderson has good stuff, but UVA can get to him if they are aggressive. He's not going to walk a lot of batters unless nerves really unravel him ... so they need to pounce on the good pitches they get. Wilson can be absolutely dominant and a K machine when his pitches are working. Haven't been right much in the single games here, but I think Virginia takes care of business.

I think it really depends on UVA's bats waking up or not. They certainly are due to score some runs. It does worry me a little that Cal's entire lineup on Sunday faced Wilson at least once when he came in to releive Hultzen. He went 2.1 innings yeilding 3 hits, 1 Earned run and 2 K's. This could be a great game or UVA could come alive and win easily. For my gamecocks sake, I hope cal wins!

Great games Friday.

Florida-Vanderbilt: Panteliodis v. Gray
Total @ 9. Florida -170, Vanderbilt +150

Panteliodis went five scoreless against Vandy in the SEC tournament final in a 5-0 Florida win. Gray gave up 2 runs, 1 earned in 6.1 IP in a 6-5 Florida win the regular season. Gray was iffy against UNC in Omaha as he didn't even make it out of the 5th, giving up 3 ER and 8 hits. 5 walks. He looked nervous. Do not expect that again. Panteliodis has been money against Vandy in his career, 13.3 IP and 13 Ks in four career appearances. I lean UNDER here. Side wise, tough call, but I think Florida will be confident with its head-2-head vs. Vandy this year and may book their spot in the finals on Friday.

No line on Virginia-South Carolina, but it's the night cap and a sexy, sexy pitcher's match-up with Roth v. Hultzen. South Carolina I am guessing will be -140 or so favorites. Total probably 7.5, maybe even less. Lefties are tough on both lineups ... I think SC has a little more difficulty with lefties with a couple more regulars batting lefty. The key here is obviously if either team can get to the ace of the other team early. Leaning UVA to make SC earn it in a 2nd elimination game.

Its not for sure a Hultzen - Roth matchup yet. Neither coach has officially released who is starting. A bit of a mind game going on between the two coaches. I kinda expect Koumas to pitch for us today especially if its Hultzen on the mound. We shall see, word is he will announce by lunch time.

I'm guessing by the lines with UVA @ -115 and SC @ -105 that the books are also waiting on starters tonight. No doubt in my mind Hultzen is starting today. UVA coach would be a fool if he did anything else. Could definitely see SC going with Koumas. Was surprised actually to read so much about Roth starting today possibly ... then again. if they end up using him tomorrow should they lose, then he's not available for much in the championship series if they make it. So far ...

FLORIDA-VANDERBILT UNDER 9

Still leaning Virginia tonight. If it's Hultzen v. Koumas, UVA ML probably jumps to -140 or -145 I would think.

That price is horrible though at this point. When it opened, Florida was -125 or so. I think the Gators prevail today, but that price now isn't one I would want. Sonny Gray is very capable of keeping Vanderbilt in that game and giving them a shot to win. They need Gray to go at least 6 though.

Confirmed that Roth will pitch tonight against Hultzen. Tanner asked Roth if he wanted the ball and he said yes. Should be a game for the ages! I have a feeling that Vandy will win today with Gray on the mound, Panda did shut down Vandy last time out but I feel like Florida is due to lose one to the Dores. If Fla does win, Kudos to them for beating thos boys 5 out of 6 times. I see them winning 5 of the 7.

Well I sucked balls picking the games the past week, but cashed two futures worth 4.5 units tonight to help alleviate some of that pain. Still got Florida @ +450 to win it all. Will see where they put the odds, but see a hedge worth taking here as SC played the Gators well this year even outside of Roth pitching. Getting the two days off is golden for the Gamecocks who can re-set their rotation and get Roth in for Game 2. Not sure what the long layoff might do to guys like Randall & Whitson for the Gators ... could help with the extra rest, could hurt. Took two bets on the Championship Series last year and think you can try it again this season ... take one team to win outright at whatever odds and take the other team to win in 3 games. Should yield a profit opportunity if it goes three and with these two teams and the pitching, I would be surprised if it doesn't. See you Monday!

Championship Series Game #1 Notes

Pitching Match-up: Hudson Randall vs. Forrest Koumas

My Take: Edge to Florida here. Randall pitched a CG against South Carolina in a regular season win. Koumas has not pitched since June 5th. Yes, he did pitch well against the Gators in the regular season, but this is a freshman being thrust into a big situation in Game 1. Couple in that South Carolina is likely without their best offensive player in Christian Walker and may not have Price available as their closer due to a heavy workload and I like the Gators in Game 1. South Carolina is a tough team, but even the defending champs aren't immune to falling into a bad situation. This looks like one. I don't expect them to lose big, but they will need another Herculean effort from Koumas and need Randall to be less than his usual self. Tough to bet on both those happening.
