Hultzen vs. Johnson the likely pitching match-up here. Hultzen as usual will not be giving up much. Hultzen has allowed just one earned run in two appearances through the Regionals & Super Regionals. Johnson though has had some issues and can be gotten to for some runs. Despite a solid 2.41 ERA, Johnson has had bouts with wildness with 54 walks in 100+ IP. That would be a deadly recipe against this Virginia lineup that would love nothing more than to hang a crooked number up after last weekend's theatrics and offensive issues. Cal's offense was up & down this season, but comes in with six straight games of six runs or better. This will be the best pitching they have faced in about a month, so it will be a challenge to do the same. They had trouble scoring against solid pitching most of the season, but that was then, this is now. I don't expect an outburst, but if they can get 2-3, I think UVA will do the rest. I like Virginia to win, but the price is not something I want to touch in case their offensive issues remain a bit iffy. Will try this instead. First day showed teams that can hit, will hit even if the park plays big. Cavs can hit, the real question is will they?

Leaning to Under 8 tonight with A&M-South Carolina. Not sure if I will play that though. Stripling v. Roth. Tough to see the Aggies getting much off Roth and Stripling shut down a more potent FSU offense in the Supers. This could be a 4-6 run game at best unless both pitchers show up with nerves. I doubt Roth will be shaken at all. Stripling, maybe ... but he's still solid.

Still not overly impressed with UVA. They still don't get the big hit when they need it to open things up. That's why I think someone else from this bracket will win it.

Siding with experience here in Texas. Horns sending out senior Cole Green in a familiar elimination spot. He's 2 for 2 this postseason in helping them save themselves. UNC should be sending out lefty frosh Kent Emanuel. Emanuel is talented for sure, but put into a pressure spot like this where execution is going to be the difference ... give me the experience.

TUESDAY: TEXAS A&M -160
Wacha vs. Porter. Cal throws a curve here and decides to start frosh Kyle Porter. Porter had great numbers this season with an ERA under 2.00, but was used mainly out of the bullpen. With this set-up, I'm sure the idea for Cal is to get 3-4 innings and let the pen do the rest. It's a gutsy call to go with the freshman here with more experienced options available. Wacha has been nothing but solid in the NCAAs. The Aggies went toe-to-toe with the defending champs before falling to South Carolina and that either gives them confidence or the late loss deflates them. They have the offensive edge and if they can get to Porter early, they should take a big step toward winning this one.

If they can get games in between rain today, going to be the 1st big test to see if the winds can propel the ball in this new park. Winds should be blowing out, but won't do anything if it's raining all day. Watch the conclusion of this first game/beginning of 2nd game closely to see if the winds are carrying the ball.

Well the futures are the best thing thus far - at least the ones to win their bracket. Single games, I am sucking balls. Sorry for anyone tailing me here. Been a bit difficult to cap on vacation ... that's my excuse.

Looks like rain will hit them tonight. Early then a possible window, then more rain late. Looks like Virginia goes with Will Roberts tonight since they used Wilson in relief in Game 1. SC probably Colby Holmes tonight. Holmes has been okay in the postseason, but has yielded six runs in 11 IP. Most of his starts are along the same lines this season, he should give them 5-6 and 2-3 runs given up. Roberts of course can be a clamp down stud. If Holmes was a bit more solid, I'd go with the under for sure here ... I still tend to like under @ 8.5 with UVA's inability to get the big hit still looming large, but it's a tough call tonight. Will probably just ride the SC future tonight and hope they end up in the pole position with another win. If I had to pick, I'd go Under first & UVA ML second.

Futures for Florida & South Carolina to win their brackets look solid right now. Should be no worse than a split as I cannot see Vanderbilt or North Carolina winning on Wednesday and then beating Florida twice straight. Also think it will be tough for Virginia or Cal to do the same to South Carolina, but UVA does have the pitching depth to potentially work to an elimination game if they can get there.

No number set for Vanderbilt-UNC, but I would be willing to roll on an over at 8 or 8.5 Guessing it will be 8.5. Vandy should be going with Taylor Hill who had a fairly solid season with a 2.84 ERA. UNC turns to a senior as well, Greg Holt. Holt has only started one game out of his 32 appearances. It was a decent start 5+ and 3 ER against Miami. Holt's numbers are 3.57 ERA and both he and Hill have good K rates. Lean to Vandy to win, but @ -175 it's a bit steep. Think the total could be a better play as I expect to see one of these bullpens involved early and if it's UNC, Vandy could roll up some runs - I think.

We got a rematch on our hands tonight. Im leaning towards Vandy tonight but I feel like Florida has gotten in their heads to an extent. Vandy better not get caught looking ahead to the possible rematch with Florida or the Tarheels could take it. I agree with you that the total may be the play tonight as both these teams have a lot of offense. Tarheels ML looks tasty as well, any thoughts are appreciated!

I agree with you eagle, over is the play. Both teams bats are due, especially with RISP. I think Vandy will take the Win. UNC starting Holt doesn't give them the best chance to win the game but the best chance to win the CWS; I don't really agree with this strategy and if Holt gets hit right out of the gates they will be in the bullpen quick. I might parlay the over w Vandy ML for a little taste.
