I'm not saying the hit was called for away from the puck, but it wasn't a dirty hit. Chara made a clean hip-check on a bad part of the ice.

History or not, it wasn't a dirty hit. Chara will still get suspended for a few games regardless.

3. Time running down in period.
4. Habs giving it to Boston
5. Chara is looking right at the stanchion. The 2 players were skating right at the thing for a good distance. He knows where it is. And it wasn't a "rub out", it was a push.

Sometimes people just lose their cool and make stupid decisions. This is what I think happened here and he should be punished accordingly.

Chara clearly knew what he was doing. Look at the replay! He clearly sticks out his arm pushing Patches into the turnbuckle. Clear interference. Big suspension coming up.

If the period winding down is a reason why Chara shouldn't have hit him, doesn't it stand to reason that the guy shouldn't have been skating that hard? But no, he was going all out to get by Chara, so Chara tried to hit him into the boards/benches, and unfortunately the guy got hurt.

5 game suspension max, and that's only because Campbell was in the stands. And don't act like your precious Canadiens never have any questionable hits
