Big deal, wanna trade?. Here's about what we pay in Costa Rica:
1 gallon of super = $4.65
1 gallon of regular = $4.54
1 gallon of diesel = $4.08

Gas prices in the USA move by headlines and excuses to push up the price. There is no way that this stuff in Egypt affects the oil supply on tankers that is already on the way. Six weeks later it would but right now the oil companies see the opportunity to fleece for six weeks of profit.
That being said the Obama admin had the opportunity to at least lessen our dependence on foreign oil. With the bailouts of GM and Chrysler, they could have "forced" the industry to make a certain percentage (say 20 percent) of all new cars within two years to be fueled by something other than foreign oil. A wasted opportunity.

Frick! I have a boat on the Mississippi/ St Croix River in MN/WI. Gas is about $1.30 higher on the river. Looks like the boat will be docked for most of the summer this year...

Good. The only thing that will ever break our dependence on petroleum based energy products will be when can no longer afford it. Best thing that can happen.

Not sure if any of you have these type of gas stations around but we have a thing where I'm at called 1st Fuel Banks. I purchased 190 Gallons at $3.19 cents... So if gas goes up to $5 a gallon when i go fill up at their pumps i still only pay $3.19 until my 190 gallons of gas are gone. Well worth it if any of you have a chance to do this or a station by you that allows this, take advantage.
You can see what the company is all about just do a search for FIRST FUEL BANKS .

Southwest Airlines saved a fortune by doing this. But they were purchasing massive amounts and fueling lots of planes. Prolly not worth the initial out of pocket cost for most people, depending on the savings. Even if fuel went from 3.19 to 5.00 and you bought 190 gallons, thats about $340. Say you fill up with 15 gallons every week thats about 13 weeks. So you are saving $25/week or $100/month. So it looks like it may be worth it initially but it is highly unlikely fuel will reach $5.00/gallon anytime soon.
So it's really just them scaring you into purchasing fuel upfront so they can control their inventory better.

I'm guessing $4.50 a gallon for regular by summertime for much of California.

Never understood this argument. Necessity is the mother of invention, but many would argue that the increased cost of food and larger instances of defaults by sub-prime credit recipients during spikes in gas far outweigh the motivating factors of a crumbling economy.

Face, petroleum is a finite resource and that is the biggest problem. We are going to run out. When we've reached peak oil and production actually decreases fuel prices will sky rocket. This will cause a subsequent increase in all other products.
We just need to have some good long term energy alternatives in place for when that day gets here.

Where do you have to go where you live? That's rather irrelevant. Americans don't realize how good they have it, with the low prices that they pay for everything.

Every time it spikes, people freak out and there's talk of alternative fuels or how it's being manipulated or how it's Bush or Obama's hope (Bush because his oil friends would get richer, Obama because it allows him to force efficiency standards)
It's been 30+ years since the oil embargo of the 70's. We could have been focussed on alternative fuels, but we're addicted to cheap oil.
People will get used to $5 a gallon, and maybe even ride their bike to work or the store once a week.
