Wow, I didn't follow up on this thread for a couple of weeks. They actually are leaving the US market entirely?

#422how can you even state this as they have new ownership and no one knows what is going to happen in the future with them? Are you part of the new ownership group? if not, your statement above is unfounded and holds ZERO VALIDITY!
Because of your continued schilling of MB, many of us got caught with our pants down and a large amount of funds tied up there now. Speaking for myself, I would have transferred my funds out of there weeks ago with all the rumors flying around but listening to your bs, I kept it there thinking we were good to go for baseball season.
I'm a big boy and can deal with the circumstances but I could have done without the headache I will be going through over the next 30 days or so trying to recoup 5 figures from MB and then dealing with my bank explaining why I have a 5 figure international wire hitting my account without them red flagging my account for review to the feds. If I sound real irritated, it's because I AM!
I can assure you, I am not alone in the feelings I have for your bs schilling!Comment -

A clear insinuation that some US players will still be able to play there.
Sorry that you acted on what he said, Linedrivr. I tend to go with what I feel as opposed to what other people do. But I as well still have money there after the writing was clearly on the wall. I think Fishhead is a smart guy when reading his posts that dont involve his critiques of a book that had turned for the worse in the last year.Comment -

#424Wow just reading this what bad news. Hopefully something can fill the void but do not see that happening in the near future. I am glad I withdrew my funds after football season, had to do it B2b. When I asked them what options they had for withdrawling and the only thing they could tell me was B2B I was a little concerned, decided to take out all funds at that point. Other books were not going to stand for being Matchbook bankers very long, we would have seen more fees and rollovers. hopefully everyone gets their funds out quickly. Hopefully SBR can work with then to get them to do B2B with other books, it would seem the easiest way and I am sure other books would not mind getting money transferred in, if the players agreed to a 1 or 2 times rollover. Maybe this can be worked out.Comment -

#425you know what i find weird?? its that i have never seen matchy with this much liquidity at 1 pm EST since it's opened up yrs ago. how is that there close to 10k liquidity on most NBA games tonight??
could it be that Matchy didn't get most of their business from U.S. citizens? could it be that matchy might get even bigger now without the U.S.??
This is all very confusing..Comment -

#427Someone please explain if they have all the money to pay the players why they wont do b2b transfers. Why would they wire the money which would cause way more problems for everyone involved, I got some serious change in there and I would very much like to believe I will see all of it in the next month.Comment -

#428That is too much of a blanket statement to be accurate.
Banks look for anomolies in activity. If this guy has a instant deposit of 500 per week, pays his electric bill and cable bill, and hasnt written a check for more than 1k in several years he has established a pattern of activity. If all of a sudden he gets a 5 figure icoming international wire, it MIGHT draw attenttion - you cant rule it out. Is it likely? Who knows.
What are the reprocussions? Not much, the bank can ask you to leave (has happened to me several times) but there are lots of banks out there willing to take your business. You could have a suspicious activity report (SAR) filed against you, but that would result in very little - you have done nothing illegal and as far as I know - nobody has ever had money confiscated under the UIGEA.
So there isnt much risk, but to say the bank doenst care is taking it a little bit too far. The bank MIGHT care, but all in all, the risks are very small.Comment -

I posted up the exact markets for MB at about this time on a Friday a few wekes back and there was a few hundred dollars a side on the NBA. It was embarassing. But yet everyone was able to get down $5000 wagers at the best prices!Comment -

Look at todays English Premier League game. On most days, this would have like 50 bucks on each side. 15 cent spreads with some nice amounts sitting out there.

... And they are so worried about US Law - so start out right by violating it. Send checks via Fedex and be done with it. Provide all users a tracking number. Give them 30 days to update their address if need be. And its done. Simple. No need to send them information. Nothing. If you have the money to wire - you have the money to cut checks.Comment -

#440I think 99% of the talk here is about ************, is it not?
What I said is - If they have the money to wire (which is an immediate debit from their account) - then they have the money available to send out checks. I didnt say I would like a wire. I do not want the money applied to my CC. I have no need for a -$9200 transaction.Comment -

this is BS. The US has no law jurisdiction offshore. If they are worried, it's for a different reason.Comment -

#454The bottom line is that new ownership decided that the US market, with possible legal ramifications, plus high cost of processing, etc is just not worth pursuing. When they cut off credit accounts some weeks ago, it was a sign of things to come. I believe the biggest players are on the credit side and when they were willing to forgo it, the postup side's demise was inevitable.Comment -

#455The very first impression I got when I first read the withdraw procedures is that the IRS--if my memory serves me correctly--has a rule that requires citizens to report wires of greater than $10k. Please, someone come in correct me if I am wrong, but I think this withdraw procedure for $10k+ could cause some grief for some of the larger accounts.
I don't think there is such a rule. Only for cash transactions, I believe.Comment
