My favorite player of all time. One of the best 5 tool players ever. Member of the 300-300 club, 300-300-2000 club. One of 3 members of the 400-300 club, other 2 members are Willie Mays and BArry Bonds. Not bad company there. MVP in 1987. RoY in 77. I feel he should already be in.
Andre Dawson should be in the HoF, yes or no?

#8If Dawson is in then you have to put Dale Murphy in. Absolutely have to. 3 MVP's including back-to-back, and was the face of the National League (along with Ozzie Smith and Mike Schmidt) for most of the 80's. I have an atrociously long email that I sent to Rob Neyer awhile back, condemning him for of his columns in which he implied that Murph didn't belong. I'd be happy to post it in its entirety for anyone that disagrees about Murph.Comment -

As an aside, I'm going to go ahead and say that anyone debating Rob Neyer with stats like "# of MVPs" should immediately remove themselves from the gene pool.

#15Rice, Murph, Dawson... I mean... C'mon... These guys are absolute no-brainers for the HOF, in my opinion. They defined an entire decade (a tad more in Rice's case) that is noteworthy for being sandwiched in between 2 long ball periods. 1987 was certainly a long ball year, but other than that, the 80's were DEAD as... DEAD. When I'm in my 50's, I'll remember any of those guys more than some of these f*cking idiots posting ridiculous numbers, year after year. Numbers that cannot be rationally explained...Comment -

You couldn't pick a +ev bet out of an entire year's worth of games, you silly f*ck.

#20Silly me, I thought this was a thread about the merits of certain players who may or may not belong in the hall of fame. But since you are so keen to talk about expectation, I'd be more than happy to compare our brackets posted here. One takes into account expected points (and a few other small concepts that are irrelevant to this discussion) and currently sits in 4th place with over $200 in equity going into today's games. The other seems to be some hodge podge of gut feelings and winnerz and currently sits in 116th place. Hint: the poster behind the 116th place bracket has zero room to lecture anyone on expected value.

Sorry again, Kellen.
Back to the Hawk, my best friend growing up was a huge Dawson fan and I was a huge Murph fan, and yet due to the tremendous amount of respect we each had for the other's favorite players, when we were trading baseball cards, I'd never trade him my Dawson's and he'd never part with his Murph's. None of them are worth piss now, but you get the idea...Comment -

#24I'll have to take some Pics of my dawson collection and post it. Ive been collecting Andre Dawson cards and memorabilia for the last 20 years. If you've seen any of my videos I posted on there, there is a Personally Auto dawson 8x10 from when I met him at a show. Ive got well over 2000 cards. Id estimate in the range of 2800-3000. Ive got 2 bats, numerous auto photos. Game used Jersey and Pants. Ive got all kinds of cool Andre Dawson stuff. I'll take some pics later on and post them if anyone cares to see it.Comment -

#26I'd like to see some pics. I've got pretty much the same thing with Murph, though probably not quite as extensive. I've got a white Braves jersey auto'd by him, a baby blue Braves jersey (old school) auto'd by him, and numerous cards, bats, pics of him with auto's. So, yes, when you get time, post a pic or two. I (for one) would be interested to see...Comment -

#33Kellen,
I won't get off topic in your thread again. That said, I could poke a million holes in the Andre Dawson for HOF argument, but I think Firejoemorgan does a decent enough job while being thoroughly entertaining as well. Feel free to respond to points made there.
Just a reminder: using stats like batting average, total hits, RBI, runs, MVPs and Gold Gloves will cause a delayed response by me due to torn stomach muscles from laughing so hard.Comment -

#35I quit caring who the BBWAA elects to be enshrined at Cooperstown a long time ago. I've got my own Hall of Fame, and as everyone already knows, my Hall of Fame is spot on and absolutely correct.
The fact that members of the BBWAA didn't support the inclusion of players such as Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio, Willie Mays and Bob Gibson should tell you all you need to know about the BBWAA.Comment
