Ken Warren writes very infomative books on all poker games.
Great information, explains the math to you without you needing an advanced degree in calculus to understand, his books are reasonably priced to boot.Comment -

#13SBR is actually a great place to learn. The tourneys are free and the play is extremely good. And when you're learning the best teachers are the sharks. Watching them you will learn how to win...if you think about it there is no reason to learn how to play with cream puffs.Comment -

#15You just need to be a strong player and lucky. Some guys like to go all in pre-flop with a 9 and a 2 off-suite. You need to sniff them out and call them and send them out of the tourney early and take their chips.Comment -

SBR needs to come up with maybe ratings on players so possibly in the future there can be tournaments for those of us who are "poker" challenged and would have a better chance of being struck by lightening then placing high in a sponsored event. In horse racing we would be considered "bottom level" claimers

#17Pocketfives is a good sight as well and twoplustwo, but dont ask any stupid questions right off the bat, read some of the forum and search for your answers. Some of those jerkoffs will jump all over you for asking same questions that have already been answered. A good book to read is Doyle Brunsons Super System 2. Its the poker players bible in my opinion, covers about every poker game that you could possibly play online. The tournies on SBR is good place to learn,so very good players on here.GLComment -

#30jj is right . poker is so much luck its not even funny. you can do everything right and still be sent packing by some river flop that gives a guy a straight and you went all in cuz you got pocket aces. bunch of bull shit . if i had to put a percentage i d say poker is 95 % LUCK and 5 % technique and skillOriginally posted by jjgoldA lot of poker is luck, the more skill you have does not equate to making money or winning tourneys

#32Wrong, it's all about the number of hands you play. If your beating the game, the more hands you play the more likely you are to be a winner. I use to make a living of sit and go tourney's, i'd play 200-250 sit and go a week. Could not do it in today's conditions, the game got tougher. Some guys still make tons of money even today.Originally posted by jjgoldA lot of poker is luck, the more skill you have does not equate to making money or winning tourneys

Just have a look at the top winners at www.pokertableratings.com (cash game database) and you'll see their is a lot of "long term" winners.
