Mine would have to be Kelso, a 5 time horse of the year with earnings of $1.9 million back in the fifties, what would that equate to now.

#2kelso was top notch in that era. however buckpasser was shipped from track to track and won something like 16 in a row. competition wasn't up to snuff but buckpasser was ahead of his time. more recently although his career was cut short by injury the wicked north had an unbelievable brush. check his lifetime pp's. victory gallup was another closer who came like a freight train. retired to stud too soon. john henry got it done too in the 80's.Comment -

#6Not a big horse player, but a horse called Flanders was the best that I ever seen. Very special, she fractured a bone during her Breeder's Cup win and never raced again; she was undefeated.Comment -

#14Desert Orchid takes some beating for sheer determination. Red Rum for being a national hero in the UK (and to this day probably the only horse that 99% of the public can name when asked to give the name of a racehorse) .. and a little known lower-level handicap horse from the uk called Chaplins Club .. who won 9 handicap races in a season not once .. but twice .. the second time he achieved this - he won 7 races from 9 runs in just 17 days ... (with a second and a 5th place thrown in there too for good measure)Comment -

#17Best horse I've ever seen in person is Spectacular Bid in the 1980 racing season. He marched onto the race track as if he knew he would win. I consider Man O War the best race horse of all time.Comment -

Only raced 9 times but went to stud for the highest value of any horse in history.
To quote the BBC commentator, "Perfection in equine form, the horse of a lifetime".

#24Spectacular Bid was truly a great horse.I had the pleasure of watching him train every day when he was in Md. and Del..Bud Delp did a masterful job training him.
I learned a great deal watching and competing against Bud . There have been many truly great horses that I was fortunate enough to witness run and or train first hand.
With that said,my greatest horses ever would be:
Male - Secretariat
Female- Ruffian ( but have to admit that Zenyatta was a beast.)
Those 2 were breath taking.Comment -
