The bible is a very depressing book and so is Christianity. Christ biggest feat was to die and come back but that was never proven but to a selected few of his friends(supposedly). The bible as a whole fails when it comes to giving man hope. Noone has true hope. The world is still full of people that are scared shitless of death; so scared that they become Christians and live the dream of being saved. It is depressing to see so many people so scared and there is nothing that I or anyone else can do but sell them bullshit dreams and fantasies. The bible was built around death from Adam and Eve to Christ, the bible fails because it does not make anyone feel any better about death it simply terrorizes poor scared wanna-be saved souls into succumbing to there Fantasy. I wish I had never read that "Book of Death"

I'm glad I read the Bible. I was 16 when I read it and I was overwhelmed by how stupid it was (talking snakes, 900 year old men, virgins giving birth, people rising from the dead, etc.). If I had never read the Bible, it's conceivable that I might still be a Christian. Fortunately, I'm a secular person now and I owe my conversion away from Christianity to reading the Bible.Comment -

So far it looks like the atheists by far outweigh the flock around here. Not surprising, since I believe that gamblers as a rule are more independent thinkers than the general public ( where atheists are a small minority ). However, the only reason there are so many idiots that believe these ridiculous fairy tales is because all of us as children get inculcated into the belief system of our parents. I was raised Catholic, but stopped going to church a long time ago. I also went to a "Catholic" college (Saint Mary's in California). Most of the students aren't very religious and I had friends that were Jewish. We all blazed together as one.
Anyways, I ended up taking a religious course specifically about the Bible. I was taught that the Bible is a guide for maintaining moral values and most of the literature is not intended to be taken literally. The messages within the stories told are actually very interesting and many are easily related to today's world. All that being said, one side cannot prove the other side wrong as to whether "God" exists and what "God" is.

ok so i disagree with all of you. i believe that (from reading the bible) you have to Accept jesus, god, holy spirit, etc into your life and ask him to forgive you of your sins and help you be more like him. i believe that if you reject his word, the bible, and you are knowledgeable of his word, then you are responsible for it and you will not have everlasting life aka hell... the bible is a guideline of how to live and studying it cant do you any wrong, imho. and hey, if im wrong, and i dont go to heaven, oh well, at least i tried so hard.
