I got used to expecting him to be there.
Why not Elvis in the 60's- 70's instead of Clark, or Mick Jaggar or Springsteen, Bono, Oprah, Howard Stern. etc.
Why Dick Clark ?
What's his pedigree ?Comment -

#18Sad what happened to him but he screwed a lot of people back in the days of American Bandstand.
He was the best television jock of his career and as his popularity grew so did his ability to get a little 'side' action. He was guilty (never charged though) of payola. If they didn't pay, he didn't bother getting them on the show. He was also a pretty good concert manipulator. Since he had the juice he got practically every star he wanted and at his price.
Still a stroke shouldn't happen to anyone especially a guy who enjoyed entertaining as much as he did.Comment -

#22Richard Clark was indeed a legend. he did American Bandstand back in the days.. this was a very popular dance show. then he hosted a game show. 100,000$ pyramid. but what made him so popular was that he was ageless. no one could believe how he never ever aged. at 40 he looked 20. then when he turned 50, he still looked 20. then he turned 60 and he still hadn't changed 1 bit. people were talking all about this ageless wonder. then he turned 70 and i swear, he still looked 28 and had no wrinkles. he was like the 8th wonder of the world..
then a few yrs ago i tune in and see him talk like this. it broke my heart. he went from 28 to 92 yrs of age overnight.. he is now a real old man.. people cursed him with all those compliments. they gave him the evil eye..Comment -

#29If you're 47, i am shocked you don't know American Bandstand. it went from 1952 till 1989.. and it was huge up until 89.. so you were 26 when it ended and on tv every week.. it was one of the most popular shows of all time.. everyone watched it in the 80's..it was as big as American Idol is today, if not bigger... how can you not have heard of American Bandstand?? Richie Clark hosted from practically the beginning till the end..Originally posted by DougWTF was American Bandstand ? I'm 47 and probably a lot older than most here.

#35man i hate that dick clarke mother fucker. he bought all the rights to TV broadcasting paintball and then intentionally sat on them rather than invest money into it...WTF is up with that...for like 5 years paintball couldn't even think about being on TV as he owned the pro league rights to broadcast...
they tried to film the shit and ****** it all up...had no concept of what was going on the field. It was terrible. set the sport back a decade at least.Comment
