I heard Android is a pretty good smart phone? I'm a bit behind when it comes to smart phones. I hope it's reliable for placing bets on the go. Anyone here uses smart phones to place a bet on the go?
s there a smart phone app or gadget great for betting on the go?

#2Android is great for this.
Most books have mobile web pages now but some that don't like Matchbook or SIA have flash intensive websites and iphones have a hard time accessing them, Android is the only platform that has adobe flash and can access these sites.Comment -

do I have to buy the android or it comes free with 2 year contracts? I've been using a Walmart bought phone and plan, month to month (1000 minutes/1000 text a month). It's more than enough. As you can tell I am a bit behind on the smart phones. Do I buy the android and find a service provider or the android is exclusive to just 1 service provider (T Mobile)?Comment -

#6Ivanator has the Nexus S, it is the latest phone for Android. I must say it is very awesome.
Android is the operating system, it allows you do things on your phone. You do not have to pay for Android, but you do have to pay for the phone.

#15I'll check it out. I am looking at the HTC Droid Incredible as well. Amazon sells it for a penny with a contract. The phone alone without contract is close to $600.

#16is this sarcasm or are you for real? where do I get it? I am always anxious about the scores but radio does not have all sports available to listen to. I have satellite radio as well, but I can't follow more than 1 sports at a time live so I'd rather just follow the scores live, not the entire game, maybe even bet live on the go as I am always on the go, in my car, parked, or at work. this pager thing seem like a great gadget.

That's what I use. Just set up your sportsbook website as a Bookmart, so it's 1 click and takes you to the website. I can be on the website to place a bet in under 20 seconds from taking my phone out of my pocket.
Then have another bookmark as ESPN, and check all the scores you want.
Top notch phone. I get 4G as soon as I leave my house and drive a mile down the road. Sucks to be me. But the 3G is still fast. And sprint, has pretty cheap plans, and pretty much anyone can get a % off their bill. We get 24% off the bill, because my girlfriend works for a big warehouse store.Comment -

#25yeah but wouldn't I need internet access on my phone, not a prepaid card to place bets on the go? I usually place a bet by computer not a phone call.
Originally posted by web_connectYou typically have 2 options. You can buy the phone coupled with a plan, for much cheaper. Or you can buy the phone outright without any plan. If you do that you should be able to hookup a prepaid card or any provider you want.Comment -

#26oh so you call in your bets? I was thinking of getting an Android phone so I can have internet access on the go to place bets on my own via computer. I have a standard cell phone.
Originally posted by furyLike others said, Android is not a phone but an operating system for phones. There are good Android phones for all the providers (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mo) and you can probably get a good price (or free) phone if you sign up for a 2-year contract. If you don't get a contract most new phones are around $500.

#27I did. The guy taking/placing the bets had an accent that what he was saying was difficult to hear. Oh well. this is why I wanted phone with internet access on the go so I can place the bets on my own, plus so I can do "research" while on the go before I place a bet.

#28I'm sure this is great for live bets...I don't feel like carrying a laptop around while on the go or at work...

#29I have a Samsung Epic 4g and it works great for this. I use Opera Mini and just go to the books mobile sites (most have them) and bet, pretty easy. I use ESPN Scorecenter and Score Mobile Apps to get scores. You can get news feeds from tons of sports sites through Google Reader to get news etc... Plus the coolest App I've discovered is "Tune In Radio" it has virtually every radio station in the country and it's free. I use it to listen to tons of out-of-market hockey games, football games and sports talk radio at work, it's amazing.
I have Sprint service and I've never had a problem I have 4g in some areas and 3g everywhere else (at least everywhere I've been with the phone so far). I have the unlimited plan and it's 90 bucks a month, not to bad for all the joy I get out of it.Comment -
