U Conn women "equal" UCLA men?

Never! John Wooden was a legend and some of his players were legendary. The level of play is far superior to that of the womens game, not to mention the opposition is lackluster

It's an impressive streak but not on the same level as UCLA. The level of competition they face just isn't close to what UCLA had to play.

I'll agree with this to an extent... but when Wooden was winning his championships don't confuse the parity in today's basketball to back then... there were much, much fewer top tier competitive teams for Wooden's teams to have to beat too. Don't forget, too, that Wooden was like the old Hurricanes teams - the best money could buy...

I'm definitely not a fan of UConn but the competitiveness in women's basketball is much better than previously... my biggest issue with the game now is that you have about 8-10 top level, "better than everyone else" players and if you have one of those players then you're gonna be in the mix. Much like it was with Wooden's teams... that said, Auriemma cheats too so it is all good I guess.

wrong. Being a Lady Vols fan I'm all for women's hoops... but to say that any a lady's college basketball team would beat a men's college basketball team, much less to say "MANY" is just ludicrous...

The athletic ability is significantly different. Physical game, playing above the rim... those are on just two completely different levels - not taking into account the speed difference.

Here in small town usa we just had a girl come back to town who graduated from an ACC school and had a full ride playing basketball there. She now plays in the recreation league who is run by the local parks and rec department and she gets abused nightly by dad's in their late 30's/40's

All this being said, the primary reason it receives any publicity is because:

1. UConn is located in Storrs, CT the home of ESPN.

2. ESPN has the broadcast rights to the Women's NCAA Tournament.

I think it's pretty damn impressive .. with that being said they have blown the fuk out of nearly everyone and the level of competition is not as equal as the overall competition of the male game .. not enough good quality women's players compared to other women's players.
