Pena's number last year were fueled by a huge spike in ground balls and teams employing the over shift on him on a regular basis.

Its possible that the Cubs (in need of a power lefty in a right dominated lineup) see something that they can fix, or they are just taking a flyer that last year was a blip. Either way the move to Wrigley will help if Pena can get balls back into the air.
Everyone knows that he had plantar fasciitis last year, right? That was another reason he played poorly. But honestly, I'd pay $10 million every single day for the type of ceiling this guy has.

    Cubs need a lefty.
Cubs need a slugging RBI guy.
Cubs need a solid defensive 1B.

...Is this not exactly what we were looking for? Plus, Pena knows now that his career is in jeopardy. He has to play well this year or there will be a severe drop in contract offers the next year.

    .269, 35 HRs, 115 RBIs = $10 million

Maybe because he's saving up his pennies for the big coup. It's unlikely Pujols will even hit the FA market. Cards are certainly gonna try to extend him this offseason, because if they don't they could get into a bidding war they might now want to win.

Even hitting .196 his OBP was still .325. Batting average as a stat is rather overrated. OBP and OPS are underrated. I'd rather have a guy knock 45 points off the batting avg and hit .275/.385/.830 (Chase Utley) than hit .320/.360/.775 (Omar Infante).

Or how about Austin Jackson (.293/.346/.745) vs. Mark Texeira (.256/.365/.846)?

If Pena can just get it up to .240 -.250 he can probably hit .360 OBP with 35 HR and 100 RBI and be very productive.

the cubs suck always will, Wrigley field is junk. 3/4 of the fans are middle aged white guys with fat wives, who get hammered at the bars around wrigley, go into the stands and drink old style beer until they pass out.

and they can have back d lee, he is garbage

i agree except for the part about the ratios of the fans, last time i went there i would guess 1/3 of the fans were hispanic, 1/3 were yuppies, and the other 1/3 were of the middle aged whitey with fat wives category.

the cubs had the worst home record in all of baseball last year. for how much fan loyalty they get and how much money they spend that is laughable and inexcusable.
