The first season of Prison break was really great. Slowly went downhill after that season, and was basically unwatchable and over the top ridiculous by the end. The first season it was more a psychological thriller, by the end it was a lame action show, car chases and shootouts in the street in broad daylight every 5 minutes.

Probably Mad Men.

Top notch acting, very well written, the best character development you will ever see on TV, unique/nostalgic setting, decent dramatic elements, and exquisite eye candy (hot women).

Also 3x Golden Globe Winner (all 3 seasons) For Best Drama Series (beating out Dexter, True Blood, House, etc.), Jon Ham Best Actor 2008, + umpteen others.

Mad Men is slow and boring. If it wasn't for Betty Draper and the red head with enormous cans I wouldn't watch it.

The Wire and Dexter are good choices. Breaking Bad is pretty good too, but I'm only at the end of season 2.

rescue me is the shit...hands down my favorite show. it's got everything a good show needs...suspense, action, comedy, love triangles
