The ratings have been circling the drain for years now. The World Series is only a big thing if your teams in it. Otherwise the rest of the country doesn't care.

If two soft market teams make it to the WS, they will just script out more intense and exciting games so people will still watch. Once people watch, it's just human nature to pick a side to root for (unless you are a gambler and played the total)
