I don't know where you live but in California property tax is 1.25% of the value of the house. You're paying $4,800 annually which indicates your property tax is rated for a house worth close to $400,000. I know some people who have lowered their property tax significantly after the housing crash, something that isn't easy to do but if your income is 15k a year you probably have a good shot.
You're probably over paying on home insurance as well at $1,200 annually. I pay $650 for $650,000 worth of coverage a year but you may live in some high risk area where premiums are higher.
Good luck on living a budgeted lifestyle. All through college my professors use to brag about shit like this how they lived periods in their lives off little money. I don't see why you can't do it and be happy, you only live once. Do what you want to do and fukk the rest.Comment -

#77its always a smart idea to pay off your house or car asap. only a banker would tell you otherwise. have you ever seen "American Beauty"? In the movie Kevin Spacey decides that hes had it with all the stress at work so he gets fired and goes to work at a fast food place just because it a easy job. You never know when unexpected expenses will come up so maybe you should get a part time job just for that extra couple of thousand of dollars a year.Comment -

#78You said in the opening post only 15K needed for the year. The monthly numbers surpass the 15K over a year ($15420)...but other than tv and internet, there's no entertainment! No going out and having fun!Comment -

#81Just got done playing poker all night. Went to the fancy restaurant with Dave and had a $40 steak dinner. Going out with my friend Maria this weekend for cocktails. And just spent $700 on tires for my car. Oh, BTW I do make much more than 15K just saying that's my minimum to get by.Comment -

I could save money my whole life and wind up with 500k when I'm 65....but even that kind of money isn't enough to live on interest alone, especially at today's interest rates. And if you want to live any sort of moderately nice lifestyle in retirement, that money will be gone in 10 years, 15 tops...and at that point you could be 80 years old and still healthy as can be, only difference is you are now broke as shit.
And bottom line is we don't know how long we are going to live...I could live to be a 108, or I could get hit by a drunk on my way home from work and die today. Live for today, but at the same time have some funds stashed away in case you lose your job, and take out a life insurance plan to take care of your wife and kids if you ever happen to kick the bucket anytime soon.Comment -

#87You are over paying on tv, phone and internet. Assuming the phone is a land line you should be able to get a better deal than $200 a month. Right now, comcast has triple play where you can get all 3 for $100 a month after fees and shit its like $110. That will save you $100 a month right there.
I don't know where you live but in California property tax is 1.25% of the value of the house. Property tax here in Chicago is 2.1%
You can't just assume and use the California property tax, unless you know that's where she's from.Comment -

#91I don't understand why people want to put up with other people telling them what to do. I used to get pissed off 20 times a day and want to kick my bosses ass daily. Put in 50+ hours a week and told I was not working hard enough. Put up with all this frustration for a lousy salary that only paid my bills. Life is so much better and easier without these job related frustrations. I may never work again!
NOTE THAT THERE IS NOTHING IN THAT PHRASE ABOUT CAPITALISM REWARDING WORKERS.
to make it worse our country has followed a conservative ideolgy that if we give all the money to the super rich, out of the goodness of their hearts they will give everyone a job. IN REALITY THAT IDEOLOGY HAS DESTROYED THE MIDDLE CLASS IN AMERICAN AND WRECKED THE ECONOMY.Comment -

#96If thats the type of life style you want, i dont see why anyone should have any problem with it.
Personally, i like having plenty of money to blow on whatever the hell i want, whenever i want. Life is short, im tryna have fun and that includes vacationing and living comfortable, and i dont think just barely getting by month to month is very comfy. But hey, if your cool w that, then more power to ya.Comment
