I like tipping. I don't understand what people, especially gamblers, make such a fuss about. Tipping is a way of spreading the wealth, and spreading the wealth is the oil that keeps a society lubricated. Leaving a good tip makes you feel good about yourself, and it makes the receiver feel good about you as well. That's two for the price of one. A good investment any time.

I like to tip and probably tip too much. My family doesn't get it but I worked for tips in college so I just became accustom to it. But if you work for tips you have to take the good with the bad. I couldn't do it any more but it was good during college. I think if you worked in the industry or had a family member who did you are more likely to be a good tipper. I doubt we are anywhere near the death of tipping in the US though.

Tip jars just piss me off... can't wait to see one at McDonalds. Service is generally getting worse overall and now people want to be compensated more... ridiculous. If you want more or better compensation do a better job and see it in your payroll, it is called a raise.

I don't mind tipping, probably moreso because my GF is waiting tables currently.. Here's my simple thought process. You are CHOOSING to eat out an establishment. Someone is bringing you your food, drinks, etc. If you can afford to go out and eat, you should be tipping at least 15%. If you cannot afford to tip, then logic dictates you cannot afford to eat out and you should be spending your money on ramen and macaroni & cheese to eat home you cheap fukk(s).

TIPS are for better service... Acronym: To Insure Prompt Service... so it has to be earned. Tip jars at counters are not appropriate and tips should be given at 10%-15% for standard service in a below minimum federal wage service related job (which is the $2-$3 service job) not at the counter of Starbucks or some fast food joint where the Federal minimum guidelines ($7.25 I think) are not the same. In these cases do a better job and get what is called a raise. If I start seeing these jars at McDonalds I am going to flip.

By the way, I usually tip 20% or more, I was also a waiter in college... If you get bad service always leave a small tip 5%, they will get the message. If you leave nothing they just think your ignorant.

I'm telling ya, tip jars piss me off more so than anything. I even had some mouthy bitch cheerily say (while pointing at it) "nothing for the tip jar?" when I went in to an establishment to pick up food just this week. Yeah, right.

Most people pay with credit cards these days, so can't cheat the system there...
If you tip less than 10 percent, there is a good chance the waiter/waitress will actually have lost money by serving you - due to tip-out of bartender, busser, runners, etc.

if you go into a tgifriday's and have an expectation that the service will be excellent, y'all got another thing coming. those places are generally packed, especially on the weekends. EVERyONE goes out to eat on a friday night, and EVERyONE wants to feel like the world revolves around them. when someone has 5 or 6 tables at once, you need to exhibit a little patience. if you want attention go back home and spend time with your family, or get yourself a hooker. way too many people expect way too much as soon as they sit their asses down in that boof. if you cannot afford the costs associated with eating out, stay the f home.
