    SBR sushi eaters...
Whats up guys?. When you go out for sushi, what drink or cocktail do you normally order with your meal?.

I just started a new job as a bar manager for this new sushi/hibachi restaurant in my town.. Now, i have to design and create the drink menu.. I have several ideas, but all opinions will help.. I would like to offer a different drink special for every day, so i was curious as to what most people drink with thier dinner..

At most places, this would not be a challenge to me, however japanese meals are not my specialty.. Sake, white wines, thats the common sense answer i guess, although i normally order a japanese whisky mixed with water.. Any answers will help greatly guys.. Thanks..

    Where is your new place?

My g/f really likes Mai Tai's when she goes out for sushi.

I like Sapporo. But then again I don't eat the Sushi. I just eat the Filet/Lobster combo.

I've ordered Sapporo already.. Also was thinking about Singha as well.. I believe those will sell well, but the cocktails is what i seem to be struggling with.. Thanks for the imput Sam..

Mai Tai's is a great recomendation also ngates.. Its a small place in upstate S.C. The family thats opening it has a few other restaurants, but this will be the 1st one with a full bar..

Another drink i was thinking about is called a "Samurai".. Its a mixture of plum wine and cold sake..

I don't really care for mixed drinks.

But you gotta think that anything fruity, or that has a taste like that, would go well with Sushi. Sushi reminds me of the beach for some reason, and while at the beach fruity drinks are top notch.

But yea a Mai Tai is really the only thing I remember her drinking when we go. Or Jack in coke if she looking to get hammered, and blow me in the bathroom.

When you applied for the job didn't you think you would need to know this already? More importantly, was your plan all along to ask for help on SBR?

                  Best of luck.

Oda, when I lived in G-ville always took my girl to the nice place downtown. I think it was called Sapporo or something. We always had a white wine, but most of the patrons drank domestic beer.

I prefer beer maybe some like asahi or ichiban, my friend prefers the Japanese Plum Wine.

Shochu and tea is nice but not common, as well as a variety of general wines.

ice cold beer and multiple varieities of sake.

if you are going high end do saketinis for the women using juice from fresh fruit such as the previously mentioned lychee and pear.

                                      best of luck.

Attached is the drink menu from my favorite Austin sushi restaurant.

Uchi Austin offers a delicate balance of elevated non‑traditional Japanese cuisine and impeccable service from James Beard Award‑winning Chef Tyson Cole.

First of all, i didn't apply for this job.. I applied for a bartending job.. Taking an order, mixing a few drinks, and watching the games on the flat screens behind the bar..

In the past several years, i've been a bar manager at Applebee's & Fatz Cafe.. However, those places are corporate.. So, i never had to deal with designing a drink menu, setting prices, or pairing drinks with food..

If my career as a bartender has taught me anything, its that you listen to customer feedback.. While many of the guys here may never be my customers, their imput is still helpful.. That is the reason i asked my friends at SBR for help.. Thanks for taking time to stop by my thread and ask such important questions.. Anymore?. I'll be glad to answer anything else on your mind, Keyboarding..
