Before I moved out of the State of Michigan, I worked in Welfare Reform in an inner city. Sadly, this turned me into a pretty jaded person. Now this doesn't count for everyone I had to deal with on a daily basis, but definitely the larger majority.

As we all know, our economy is shit right now.

Just picture living in Michigan, where the unemployment is astronomical. I thankfully moved before it started getting really bad...back when jobs were still available.

Even though jobs were available, most found it much easier to "pretend" to look for a job and collect money from the State. I saw people with children coming to work with they hair and nails did...but they couldn't afford diapers. WHAT THE EFF??

It is called priorities. If you enable people to use government funding as means to remain lazy, people aren't going to utilize the funding to further educate themselves. It is much easier to sit around watching Judge Joe Brown instead of learning a trade.

As for "food stamps"...Michigan utilizes something called the Bridge Card which resembles a debit card. There are many reasons this was switched, but one of the main reasons is to prevent fraud and inappropriate purchases (cigarattes, alcohol, etc).
