moving from 1k sq ft apartment to 2500 sq ft house my electric quadrupled, water bill is about 6x as much, have a gas bill i didnt before, lawn/pool maintainance bills, bug guy, trash/sewer service i didnt have to pay for before. Mortgage payment about the same as my rent payment. Utilities are just more expensive.
But i have a yard and a pool and grass and trees now its all worth it.

Decent house in a decent neighborhood for sure.
We looked all of July at homes up to 180k so I have a good idea what you can get with that. Living in the better parts of the Summerlin area you can get a 1,800 sq foot home with no pool usually in that price range. Sure there are some more/less depending on many factors but most of the homes me and my wife were looking at were around this price and size, I would say just under $100 a square foot.
Here is the big problem for me. It seemed the next level of homes is where things really got nice, about 210k or so and things were noticably much better. Top neighborhoods, in-ground pools, newer homes, etc.... Don't get me wrong I really like stuff priced in this 180k range but I want to be somewhere for a long time so you want it to be the perfect house.
Still 170k gets you a very nice home, in a nice neighborhood but no yards, trees, grass, etc... So be prepared for that and that can be a culture shock for mid-westerner's like myself.

Thats typical. It was one of the first homes that showed up on Craig's List. Nothing I am persoanlly looking at.
Been doing this about a month now and have a GREAT idea what and where to look right now. My wife seriously knows probably every house for sale/rent in a certain area and price range. She has RE agents working for us and e-mails sent when any house first pops up, gets about 3-5 new e-mails a day. We have our choices narrowed down right now as we have to make a decision this week.
It all just really depends on what and where you are looking. Everyone is different.

Like Gambleballs said there are some things that suck. I know our electricity bill ran around $400 some months before but keep in mind we lived in a 2 story home also. Nothing you can do about it, the A.C has to be flowing at all times. HOA fees possibile for home owners but usually not rentors. Not sure how much these are.
Surprisingly one of the things I like best about a neighborhood is if it has grass. Many don't have it but those that do make things look a lot nicer. Also gated communities seem to be a lot nicer as do HOA with rules like no parking on the side of the road, it sure makes a neghborhood look 10x better.
It's funny they say vegas is for sale right now but there were some areas where I drove down every street and not a single house was for sale or rent. Those are obviously where you want to live, the less rentors on a street and the more you will see people taking much better care of their yards and stuff. Some roads have 5+ for sale signs also and that doesn't look so good.

Sponsey you want cheap
Buy the Gas station on rte 95 in Cal-Nev-Ari
You can cut holes in the cactus and spindle to your hearts content
But in all honesty if you there to gamble and do nothing else and now that there is no opinions on lines in Nevada anymore
Move to Bull Head City Arizona and cross the Bridge into Laughlin every day
170k will but you a palace in Arizona

Exactly.
We were noticing you can get about $300 more per house when buying instead of renting and this included taxes, etc.. Had us really thinking.
So a $1,500 rental home seemed to be around a $1,200 mortgage payment.

Bullhead City, AZ. I know that gas station your referring to. They also have a storage complex for boats and campers. I believe its a Chevreon? It's near that traffic light before you head up the hill towards Kingman.

I suspect you might have to vacate the room on Friday/ Saturday esp. if it is big weekend.
Some places ( like Binions) just closed up the hotel aspect of it, instead of renting $20 rooms.
Let's see the names of some of these places !

we get the advertisements because of our players card in the mail....aug and september were basically
free during the week and not bad on the weekend at smaller harrahs props.
Not sure if there is any wiggle room if you tell them you want to stay there for 3 months...or they
may raise the rates...i have no idea.

actually I believe the Western closed down the Hotel part of the operation. Maybe El Cortez , Gold Spike,LV Club, Golden Gate could work ?
