As long as it's a real replica and not a fake replica. Apparently there's a difference.

Many guys do use the watch as a stepping stone to getting laid. I remember my sister telling me about guys twice her age trying to pick her up in nightclubs, they'd flash the rolex to let her know they have money. She called them "creeps".

Never owned a watch, even though I am still a young guy. I'm thinking about dropping $200-$300 on a Citizen or Seiko in the near future though. Anybody can max out their credit line to pick up a used Submariner at a pawn shop for a few grand. With all the financing options in today's world, its very tough to tell who really has money, and who is just a pretender. Picture the guy with the leased BMW with the Rolex on his wrist that he maxed out his credit card to get. Now compare that with an old farmer who may not have much as far as material possessions, but has $xxx, xxx in the bank.

Materialistic people want expensive watches worth $2K or more. I'm not materialistic, see no reason to drop $2K on a watch for myself. Could easily lose it or have it stolen. Stupid....

True. In fact, $2,000 in your wallet will impress the ladies a hell of a lot more than some stupid watch will.

Great post. I know some guys here that are in so much debt it's crazy. They could care less though and just keep on going. I know a guy here that rolls around in an Koenigsegg CCX and couldn't finance a toaster he is so debted out. It's pretty funny, I give him shit all the time.

For guys who do own Rolexes (Illini, Shady, etc.) do you wear them all the time or are you conscious of where you're going? For example, are there some places you would feel nervous wearing your watch due to concerns over possible mugging/theft?

I wear it every day, everywhere......the only time I may not have it with me is when I go on vacation and have to lock it in the room safe when I go to the pool or beach.

I must say that you can get a great looking watch for about $300-$500. I bought a Rolex several years ago and spent waaaaaaaay too much money on it. I like it, it's a unique design (bronze face w/ a bronze and gold dial, silver and gold wrist band) but I think the choices today are so good that you can get the same look for a whole lot less. As far as time keeping goes, it's always fast.

I don't even think about getting mugged for my watch. I don't wear it during the day or nights when I am working. I wear my watch probably a week out of the month but it just depends. I like to trade around. My Brother has a nice one and we bought our Father a really nice one. I think they are very nice watches. Lots of people think they are a waste of money, I don't.
