slicker, i never really told anyone how to do it.. it's tricky.. all i ever said was that no matter what you know in sports, i dont care if you know every stat humanly possible, i don't care if you can name every player in sports, no matter how much of a bankroll you have, YOU WILL GO BROKE. don't believe me, try it?? you MUST beat that closer more often than not..or you might as well give your money to charity, cause it ain't going in your pocket..
but you can't just learn to beat closer in one day or one week. takes years and years and years to be able to do it.. no one can ever ever ever do it consistently on every game. even guys like Billy Walters will have games move against him and he'll end up betting against the closing #..
but there are ways that you can beat it more often than it goes against you.. if you study the line movement well and see trends, you can beat it 60% of the time, easily.. but even then it's tough. it takes years and years of studying this stuff. but you can do it more often than not if you play at matchy and a few other good books like 5dimes, betjam and pinny, just beat it 57% of the time and you can retire..

Boys, you're 0/2, but don't get disheartened now.
The first answer would've worked had I been asking about tltaylor89, and the second for Uncle Richie.

Chasing steam on a regular basis will get you booted at many books.

Durito you are one of the few who have the discipline to do things the right way
and not blow it all on overbetting, chasing, and impluse bets.
Much can be learned from how you do things....

Not according to some people. They theorize that if you beat the closing number consistently, you will be a winner long term.

burty boy, you can't be more wrong than that.. it is mathematically impossible to lose over the very long haul if you beat the closing # consistently.. do you hear me.. IMPOSSIBLE.. no matter how many losers you pick, there will be a time you will just pick winners only.. everything will even out at the end no matter how bad you are, and will turn you into a winner..
it's called mathematics..

Nicky gave us a fool proof method to make money earlier...
Bet unders, always.
I looked into this and almost every sport has more unders than overs at the end of the season... Not by much, but if you shop around for good numbers you will win.

durito,
i hate to argue with you because i like you now because you sent me 14 pts yesterday for no reason, which was really nice of you.. now having said that... if you really want to chase steam in an easier fashion, believe me when i say... pinny is NOT the place to follow.. it's matchbook..
matchbook has the sharpest lines in the offshore world.. 94% of the time, PINNY is behind matchy.. there's no book more that i respect their lines than matchy.. not pinny..

richie,
don't you remember my thread of 1 yr ago when i said if you bet every under in sports at the very very best #, you will retire.. I thought everyone knew this..
but you must have at least 6 good shops, incl matchy and pinny, and watch the money come in..

Matchbook lines are always right inside pinny. Their markets don't tighten until pinny has full limits.
Who do you think is making those offers at matchbook?

Here we go again with this BTCL crap.
You know the secret to beating this game? Bet on the team that outscores their opponent by more than the spread.
Brilliant, huh? And as informative as BTCL.
When I first got into this game, more than 20 years ago, the hot idea was "the winning team covers the spread almost all the time, so don't worry about beating the spread, just pick the winning team!"
People were talking about that like it had meaning, like it was an insight, like it was a clarification.
Now, they talk about BTCL the same way and for the same reason.
