OT: Any self-made millionaires out there?

Good post buddy and mostly true. One thing that has shocked me is that there are actually some pretty wealthy guys hanging out on these boards. A whole lot are like you described of course.

We get to know a ton of players through disputes or garden variety missunderstandings. There are guys here who can barely spell wagering $5k a game. We had a poster win $300k in the Pinnacle casino who turns out to be a well known high roller. The last example is poster panther who won the rx poker tourny 2x in a row. A tough tourny for sure. No way that guy made it out of 3rd grade but apparently he is a real roller.

So yes the majority are living a dream but i've learned you cant tell a poster by his handle.

BB: You really missed the point of my thread. I don't feel rich by any strech. I was trying to open a discussion on to how people have made it financially. I'm 50 next month so I better have something put away. Do you really think a million is that big a deal, if so you have low goals. I was trying to see how others were doing it. Did you miss the part where I said it took 20 years. The point was to save for tomorrow.

My wife and I can't have kids, don't you think I'd trade that for every buck I have in the bank. My Dad, a WWII vet, died last 12-26 and I took care of him to the day he died. He lived thru the Great Depression, and instilled the need to save...he didn't trust banks.

i came in here months ago telling people I am a pro and i had a bad few years out of the last 15. Sure enuff jjgold starts his bullshit. I even posted pics of my house and cars. Then they questioned thats not how i got that stuff. I begged these morons to follow my nascar picks. I hit 7 races in a row and the views in the nascar forum were like 27 views. come on. peeps here arent about winning or making money. I fly around in my helicopters from race to race meeting hanging with racers like gordon and kenseth and make $15000 a race doing it. they will make any intelligent thread a retard thread here. They let jj post his nonsesnse in this forum but when i try to post a 10 to 1 winner it gets moved to the shitty no view nascar forumk. I hear what u were trying to do. Well the way I have been doing it and made my first mil was simple saving saving saving. And i pay myself all the time. If i have a bill thats due I put money into my etrade account. If i win a big bet I put $ in my etrade account. Then I also keep a cash saving on me. Once it gets to $5000 i put into a fund or stock. When I sold my houses in cali i put some of the profit away as well. Made $250,000 off one house. The key is too payurself all the ****in time no matter how bad it hurts. And then forget its there. u have to have discipline

Obviously by the thread title you knew it was an excuse to puff his chest. Are you considering that if you pay 1000 per month for a house payment for 5 years you will make about the same amount on price inflation? Unless you live in the sticks that is?


Investment wise you get your money back (and then some usually) if you own for 5 years as opposed to renting. When you rent all you get is an argument about why they dont owe you your deposit back.

Renting is NEVER better than buying unless you cant afford the down payment.

This post is so outdated... If you want to talk about history then we have never had a run up in housing as we just did... THIS IS NOT NORMAL!!! Even still to buy as oppossed to rent argument still doesn't hold ground... It DEFENITELY WON'T from here on out...

It is hard to argue with people because it's like argueing with a capper who says he is 100% but does not realize he is not counting his losers...

First you have to add closing costs to the price... You must add these costs if you are considering it as an investment... All costs like interest, repairs, insurance, maintainence, taxes, and even the extra costs for energy a house would use over an apartment... These have to be added...

Let me give you an example... I called Coach because he is one of those nut jobs that has EVERY and I do mean EVERY reciept of anything he has bought since 1966... Fokes it's a sight to see... Anyway we made some good guesses at what he has spent on his house so far... He bought his house in 1981 for 110K here in a suburb... He paid 26 years of taxes, insurance, did tons of repair and remolded it... After 26 years he paid 30K in insurance, 442K for the house with interest (he refinanced and paid it off 4 years early too) 225K in additions, major maintance, and remolding... These are just the major things... We didn't cover any minor repairs and did not include ANY costs in how much extra it is to heat and cool...

What I am saying is if you paid $1000 a month in rent for 26 years as opposed to doing what coach and most do then you would still have about 450K... What if you were putting that (what added up to be 450K over 26 years) in a bank account and collected basic interest... Over 26 years how many MILLION do you think you would have...? Well he tells me his house is appraised for 250K which means if he's lucky now he'll get 200K for it... he lost well over 500K already and this is not taking into account oppurtunity costs... Earning interest over 30 years...

My friend with the credit accounts to my knowledgte has a few million... Long term he is even or maybe a slight loser and he has been posting at TheRx for at least 5 years... My point is it wouldn't surprise me if someone wtih a million is a poster...

Tried to PM you today about your Louisville interest yesterday, but your box is full. I visited that area 12 years ago and really liked it. I was going to suggest checking out the other side of the river in Indiana--towns like New Albany and Jeffersonville I believe. I recall there being better tax breaks (property and state) on the Indiana side--plus you're still very close to Louisville. I also think they have a decent racetrack out there, too (if the ponies are your thing).

Just saying that those that earn it on their own appreciate it much more than those handed it. I agree that there are some exceptions, but very very few. Some of my best friends are trust fund babies (not really). Best thing you do for a kid is make him go out in the real world and earn a living. Trust Funds and Welfare are similar in that neither teaches the value of a buck.

Totally agree with this, if the child is used to have all free than from the age of 20 he's lost in life. They don't fight for nothing in their entirely life.

Most guys here are in there 20s or 30s. Most live in an apartment, are single or have g/fs they can't committ to, have jobs (as opposed to careers), have some college education, exprerience long bouts of depression and volatile mood swings, have few if any hobbies outside of gambling, don't make much money with their job, and whatever money they make is spent on gambling and fantasizing about becoming a pro gambler. 90%+ on here are long term losers in gambling, 5-7% may be break even, 3-5% of posters are winning gamblers.

Suffice to say, the "millionaires" who post on here are few and far in between.....

Why does everyone try or need proof of everything said on this site. Listen its a sports forum and of course as buddy bear stated people will lie anywhere online, but who cares. Just let them, Let me let you in on a little secret. The more someone tries to prove something , the more they are being decieving. Or arent acustomed to sucess.
