Don't make the mistake of thinking that NFL players are faster than world class sprinters.
First of all, 40 times have nothing to do with speed. 40 times are about acceleration, 100m times are about speed.
Secondly, many football players have better acceleration than Olympians as proven in the OP.
Thirdly, the Olympians that I analyzed in terms of their 40 weren't running off the gun. They were calculated the same way that NFL players calculate their 40. Those 40 times are not estimates they actually ran them.

And I'm not saying hockey players aren't strong, I'm saying they don't have great upper body and lower body strength (tested from bench press and vertical/long jump). Proof:
For the NHL Combine of 2010, the best:

Standing Long Jump - 116 inches by John McFarland (9.7ft)... in the NFL the top was 11ft by Chris Cook

Vertical Jump - 31.5" by Jacob Fallon... in the NFL the top was 44.0" by AJ Jefferson

Bench Press - 20 reps of 150lbs by Danny Biega... in the NFL the top was 45 reps of 225lbs by Mitch Petrus

Note: the football results are from 8th graders & freshmen (9th grade) in the city of Houston, Texas (they are actually from the city, not outsiders).

Vertical - 35" by Justin Webster
Long Jump - 9'9" by Justin Webster
Bench Press - 33 reps of 135lbs by Chris Atkins

So guess what? These children (just in the city of Houston) are putting up better numbers than players from the 2010 NHL Combine. Best vertical (31.5"), long jump (9'7"), & bench press (20 reps of 150lbs)

The point is those numbers aren't really accurate. Olympians are faster than football players.

The point is, those numbers are pretty accurate.
Yes Olympians are faster than football players, no shit. Olympians are faster than anyone.
In terms of acceleration, its debatable.
