Russia is broke and they would be a lot broker if they gave the US a reason to flatten their oil fields and destroy their fragile infrastructure. The problem these countries have with the US is air power. The US would simply destroy their infrastructure and all their millions of troops would have no battlefield to fight on.

Take a look at the map of Russia. It is 5 bigger than the US. They are protected on three sides by ICE (north, east and west). If we want to attack them from the Baltic Sea or the Black Sea we will be sitting ducks.

The US is more broke than Russia. The only thing we have an advantage is our ability to print more money which in a time of war will be useful as toilet paper is.

Russia can destroy stealth fighters with S-400 surface to air missiles like they did over Belgrade during the NATO bombings of Serbia.

The truth is, if both countries engaged in an all out war, both countries would cease to exist. The thousands and thousands of nuclear missiles in each nation's stockpiles would be depleted to zero.

The truth is also that this would never happen because both nations are aware of MAD, or Mutually Assured Destruction. This would be like 2 heavyweight boxers fighting with their fists, both fighters would inflict permanent brain damage on each other, even if one would be considered superior to the other. Even France would blow both Russia or the USA off the map if they ever engaged in war, and that's only because they have nuclear weapons.

There were 1500 US troops dug in on the south side of the highway and there were A-10 squadrons flying CAP overhead. The Russians were told that if they crossed the highway the A-10s would create large holes where their armored units used to be.

The Russians wanted to have nothing to do with tangling with the US military.

The infrastructure war will be waged online. IMHO. The electronic funds and utility systems are so vulnerable and fragile. guerrilla war is dead, excuse the pun, for first world nations. That said, I suppose a drone war is possible in our lifetimes.
