Happiness surveys show that retired people aren't happier than the employed. I wasn't big on working in general until I read up on most of the research done on the subject of happiness. You'll lose money, status and some sense of purpose by being unemployed. Try to find something you like or are at least okay with. There's non-pay stuff you could do too, like volunteering or productive personal project (I'm being a little bit of a hypocrite when I say this).

Gambling sucks.. Gamblers always lose on the long run. Don't be a Gambler/Addict, treat sports betting as a job, as an investment. You should be happy if you increased your bankroll by %20 in a month but bettors are very unpatient.

Yep I have no patience, I say to myself...Hey all I gotta do is hit this bet and then I'll slow down. Either way, I never do.

I think I'm just fixated on money even though it brings no happiness. Maybe I should do something like volunteering.

Giving your time is very adult-like. Leads to snapper, and snapper is good!!

a few years ago i quit my job. i had a nice amount of money in the bank, i decided to take some time off and put my feet up. 8 months later my savings was running on fumes (i went through it at an insane rate) and i found myself mired in a good case of depression. i faced the fact that i needed to go to work immediately. after having been idle for so long, i suddenly doubted myself. lost a lot of self confidence. hell, i was wondering if i was capable of performing the simplest of jobs. anyways, i'm back to a respectable job and look back on the past and can laugh about it, but in all seriousness, like someone else pointed out, stay active in something. time has a way of getting away from you. that was the worst thing for me. the first month or two, it was fine not having something to do when i rolled out of bed, but after awhile it sucks. a man's gotta have some kind of purpose when he gets up. otherwise, at some point it becomes nearly impossible to drag yourself away from the bed or couch. 2 months turns into a year pretty damn fast.

happy retired people are the ones who work and plan, and have things to do. the unhappy ones are the ones who retired without putting much thought into it. the idea of simply being able to put one's feet up isn't a good plan. i found that out the hard way. so good luck. pardon me if i make light of it, as like i said, for me it was a terrible decision that these days i can look back on and shake my head with a smile and wonder what the hell i was thinking about.

Bud, find a fulltime job. I unloaded in the AM for UPS in the summer (1997) during college. You work at the most 5 hours a day. Big deal.
