The fact that there are people in the world who would do anything to have a child but can't for various reasons while there are others who have children but do anything they can to not be a good parent.

That is the irony of life, isn't it? I have several friends of mine who experience this right now.

Ace, from a purely economic standpoint, think of all the immigrants who pay a highly inflated rate of taxes because they are earning a fortune and don't have permanent residency yet. It may be easy to think of a certain socio-economic group when referring to immigrants, but in actuality they come in all shapes and sizes. In fact a lot are quite often not a 'problem' at all because they are actually greatly assisting the bottom line not only with their tax money, but also by their contribution to the daily economy and through filling huge gaps in countries, such as the US, who are experiencing a severe skill shortage in many areas.

Look at it this way...immigrants enrich a country. America is what it is BECAUSE of immigrants' hard work and cultural influences. I love immigrants, I love hearing different languages and being exposed to different backgrounds. We can only benefit from learning about how other people live and what they believe in. Plus, I am an immigrant myself and teach my students every single day that there is a world out there beyond the U.S. borders.

immigrants are needed to keep up the ponzi scheme that is fiat money (us dollar/inflation) since most people aren't having more than 2 kids any more. we didn't need immigrants during the "baby boom" times because the population was expanding quite nicely on its own
war is also always needed - the money supply HAS to expand, and when the amount of goods and services we produce don't increase, the amount of money we spend blowing up sand and occupying countries HAS to increase
once you realize these very simple facts the rest of the nonsense starts to make sense

Bullshit. If they do not come to the USA with a boat load of money and a printing press to make MORE, they do no good for the country at all. Just kidding. Good luck getting through!!

jule that is a decent enough point, but i think the problem is ILLEGAL immigrants. if they want to assimilate then fine (i don't speak italian everywhere), otherwise name one multi-cultural country that ever survived and thrived.
having people illegally in a country that want to use goods and services that they aren't paying for, and don't want to learn the common language or cultures usually leads to conflicts as you're seeing now. can you blame someone like me that pays 20k/year for medical care for being mad at the family down the street that pays nothing and gets the same or better care?
can you blame me for being a bit peeved that there are public places IN THE UNITED STATES where spanish is the first language? if i walk into a mcdonalds anywhere in this country they damn well better be able to take my order in english.

Ohhh...should I refrain? There is a reason why Marx called religion the "opium for the people" (there...Jules again trying to impress with big words). religion can truly mess with your mind. Plus, wars triggered by religion have always been the most cruel ones in the history of mankind.

Governments and big businesses only give a shit about money and growing the economy and gaining from it and in the last few years, the flood gates have been open and more and more have come in. We can't support that and the population is rising rapidly and we could be faced with a food supply shortage. We don't want a big population, our infrastructure does not meet the needs of our existing population etc, etc, etc.

Marxism is a form of religion.
What is annoying me now is the naivete of people who believe that the "American dream" is attainable by everyone if they just work hard enough.

The revolution STARTS HERE. First act. We ALL agree, oil in the Oceans pisses us off. Therefore, WE ALL stay home from work tomorrow as a show of unity that we do not want oil unless it can be drilled for without huge environmental impact.

Oh, I am getting excited here! YES, I agree! marxism is not a form of religion in my eyes. But alas, I grant you that statement since your second half of your comment really impresses me.

Shari,
I find that people who are sympathetic towards immigrants and truly understand the situation are those people who either are immigrants themselves, or personally know of one. When I lived in the states, I was blind to them. Since I have immigrated to another country, my eyes have definitely been opened.

OK, first of all...the illegal immigrants I have come to know personally are the hardest workers I have ever met. have you ever not been able to order in English in the US? How many languages do you speak? I enjoy ordering my food in a foreign language, no matter what country I am in. Also, why not taking care of each other a little? (oh oh....the word that shall not be named...so..socia...social....). Illegal immigrants have a reason why they risk their lives to come to the US and work their butts off for next to no money, my friend. Not everyone gets lucky in life. It is ok to assist when you are better off. Here is my homework assignment for you: meet and talk to an immigrant and listen to his/her story. It might change your opinion a little.
