The limits here are actually fairly large considering you can only buy in for 100. You constantly see people in the 2/5 5/10 limits going all in multiple times with 100 bucks to try and double up their br. The smart ones work their way up from 1/2 no limit games and then sit in on the larger games. Unfortunately, you cant pocket chips and go home with them for the next session but obviously some people still do it anyways.

#38Originally posted by FishheadIf so, that may be a better money oppurtunity than the NO LIMIT games........especially for a seasoned pro like yourself. Right???
Fish, I'm far from a seasoned pro, in fact played very little in the last 10 years or so, that's probably going to change though. I always recommend learn all the games, that's the best way to earn. You should be able to walk into a cardroom, grease the floor and have them send you to the best game in the house regardless of what is being played and feel comfortable you play that game well. I don't have a favorite game, I want to play with the best line-up day in and day out.
As specifically for limit versus NL, both games give you a great shot at earning. For me personally the biggest difference was variance. Over time they come out similar but there was bigger swings in NL versus the limit. Another thing I like is most the newer players are drawn to NL, the limit games are often full of guys that have never upgraded their game. They stick to limit because it's "safer", these games are often very easy to beat. I'd recommend everyone learn to play limit, it's not the same as NL, if someone thinks it is they still got a long way to go.Comment -

#40what is the rake going to be on those limit games?
here in milwaukee limit is not anything close to "easy to beat" with 10% rake up to $8/pot. having to make up for $20/hour in rake and tips over the long run is almost impossible even in a 10/20 limit game. in anything lower than that like 2/4 3/6 5/10 it is impossible to overcome that unless you're playing against drunken idiots every hand.Comment -

I'm sure the rake will not be more than $5 maximum per pot, even in the bigger games..........at least I hope not.Comment -

#44Originally posted by milwaukee mikea couple of points - yes i have played poker in florida but it has been a while, good to see it is jumpin and will improve
and yes florida is a great tourist destination but many of these cities like jacksonville only have one poker room?
no way florida will ever top vegas in poker imho, but let's wait and see! my humble opinion is that some bigger players might go there and feed off of the fish for a year or two, but then the action will dwindle dramatically (weak players running out of money or quitting).
there are always people willing to throw away money, but are there that many people willing to throw away a lot of money without getting free drinks/hotel/etc on a florida vacation?
Jacksonville has two rooms. St Johns and Orange Park. Orange Park was renovated and has become a HUGE play spot for heavy cash even in the still limited buy-in capacity. Then there is Daytona which is one of the nicest poker rooms anywhere. The old room was run down and had been in existance since the 50's but they built a brand new multi-million dollarpoker/dog track 5 years ago and it too gets HUGE play.
For my area which is Gainesville we generally play Ocala.
Obviously for vacationing purposes visitors are gonna want to play in Tampa on south. As of yet no poker in Orlando due to heavy Disney influence. Can't see this lasting though. Orlando has everything you could imagine except gambling.
If things transition smoothly with the increased limits and hours it only seems logical that the next step for Florida will be to maybe look into legalized gambling as a whole.Comment -

#46hell let's do that in wisconsin too while we're at it! with online being more and more of a pain in the ass to deposit/withdraw i wish i could just put in my bets at the casino.
still not sure of the logic - why can i bet $1000 on a 2 minute horse/dog race but not on a 3 hour baseball game? there's only one goddam casino and they could cap the bets at $1000 or so, guys are betting that with their local or offshore anyway so why not take a 1/2% tax and do it legally?Comment -

There are only THREE pokerrooms in the city of Tampa(Tampa Greyhound, Tampa HR, and TAMPA DOWNS)
There are hoards more throughout the entire state.
Another comment regarding Limit vs. No Limit. I've played 70 to 100 different nights at both games at the Hard Rock which I record in a spreadsheet. Over time I have made only a slight amount of money playing limit which was totally not worth it. I estimate I've made nearly 10 bucks an hour playing No limit (the 1/2 $100 max tables) So maybe neither was too worth it, but certainly Limit was garbage as most players are pretty "safe" and it's very difficult to overcome the rake plus tipping. Just my two cents.Comment -

#55this is great news for florida. i hope we get alt of out of town play. the poker rooms in jacksonville are littered with old folks who insist on telling you exactly why they played each hand. i enjoy the free looks at all there hands but hate trying to be polite to people who are crapping in there depends diapers as they play.Comment -
