My favorite sport is the one where you swing a stick at a fast-moving ball then walk in a diamond-shape till you get back to the plate you started from. This means you scored 1 run. Sometimes it takes weeks for this to happen, but I gladly sit back with a 12-pack of Budweiser, salsa with chips, and wait. Sometimes I fall asleep, usually no more than 15 minutes after the game starts.
Am I the only Poster that thinks Soccer is by far the best sport in the world?

#39If you watch the Premier League, La Liga, Champions League and World Cup there is no other sport that is more entertaining. You basically watch 45 minutes of spectacular action without any commercial interruptions.
Football (american) is exciting too but only since the invention of the DVR which allows you to only spend 90 minutes watching the game instead of the 3.5 hours it takes when you watch it live. Commercials are ruining the continuity and cohesion of most american sports. I can't tell you how many times I went to a Falcons live game and the team is driving down the field, everyone is on the edge of their seats waiting for the next play and there it is the ref stopping the game for 2 minutes for no apparent reason other than to broadcast a commercial for the folks watching at home. This is preposterous!Comment -

#42By the way, good point here, corporate greed has ruined most American sports. I think Soccer is kinda like the cockroach of all sports, you can stomp on it, drop a bomb on it, throw it in a bath full of acid - it will always survive and outlive the others.Originally posted by pavyracerIf you watch the Premier League, La Liga, Champions League and World Cup there is no other sport that is more entertaining. #45No, actually I don't mind soccer, but it's not high on my list. I get really into it every four years during the World Cup because of the hugeness of the whole thing and how meaningful it is to people. But the rest of the time I can't get too into it.
Capy's order of favorite sports to watch and/or follow:
1. Football!!!!!!!
2. Hoops
Falls pretty far after that...
I will give you that I'd rather watch a soccer game than baseball. Used to be a huge baseball fan but I can't watch an inning now, it bores me to TEARS!!! So SLOOOOOW.Comment -

#46NFL is most exciting sport to watch. No question. Every play is dramatic. In soccer you've got divers and nil nil and 1 nil scores. Basketball you've got games that are basically over taking 15 minutes to play the last minute. Baseball just sucks to watch. Hockey isn't too bad though, probably second IMOComment -

The major US sports in their pure form can be good to watch but the sports have been and are being further ruined with the leagues turning into more of a business than a sport. Games are molded around advertisements, big business is destroying the game, games are put on hold to promote a pizza. There are teams with no ambition, they are just in the league to make money, there is no pressure on them as they can't get relegated. It ends up looking very artificial, you watch some games and its like a WWE wrestling match.
Soccer has also been effected by big business but the supporters won't let the game be changed to suit companies. There are still companies promoting their sh*t but they have to work around the game not the other way round. Alot of ultra and supporter groups hate corporate involvement and have alot of influence in their clubs. Even big teams in Italy have to listen to their supporters and can't push around their followers.
If you understood the game, had a team that meant something to you, went to a few games and got involved in soccer crowds you would realize that maybe its not the rest of the world that has a problem in appreciating sports. Soccer is actually appreciated by its supporters

#54Kara,
Good post. A perfect example is the Pittsburgh Pirates. MLB is happy with them because they made a profit last year with their $40 million payroll. They lost 100 games, the fans went to the ballpark to see the team lose game after game without even trying to sign up a big name and they managed to make a profit. This doesn't work in soccer. Teams spend money to offer a good product for the fans. Here in the US the fans pay the team in advance but the team is not obligated to offer a good product for the fans and the fans get used to the loser's mentality year after year.Comment -

#63Soccer is by FAR the best sport. Best athletes in the most challenging circumstances. And it's the only sport where you really can't take your eyes off the screen because the action doesn't stop. AND it's a great sport because goals actually mean something.
The funniest thing about US football is how many games are decided by soccer players. The funniest thing about basketball is people cheering because their team just scored 1% of the points needed to win a game. One whole %. In a game where, if they game's any good, it's only the last few minutes that mean anything anyway.Comment -

There is a disconnect between teams and their supporters, its like alot of these major league teams forget about them when supporters make a team. Without a supporter base there will be no ticket sales, merchandise sales, contributions, no Tv rights for games, there would be no market. The way these owners act is disgraceful, if they tried to the same with soccer teams they would be driven out and made public enemy number 1. A few came to take over UK clubs recently, already Liverpool has driven them out. In Liverpool and Manchester United these owners are the despised.
Take a look at some of the biggest soccer clubs in the world, for example Barcelona, its motto is "Més que un club" More than just a club. The club is run like a country, nobody can buy or sell the club, the supporters own the club, every member gets a vote, the chairman has to be elected, they reject corporate sponsorships on their shirts. In the Bundesliga private investors can only control 49% of the club, 51% has to be public/supporter owned. In many clubs there are big ultra and supporter groups who have enough power to push out a chairman, they are given rooms to organize in within the club and treated as a part of the team club.Comment -
