1] So suppose your real name is John Smith and there are a few people who really want to prepare for you. When toastedbread on SBRforum.com says his handle on ICC is LoserPatzer, how exactly do these people preparing for you know that LoserPatzer is John Smith? Again, you're either not any good or you are just plain dumb.

2] Anyone who plays chess past expert/master strength is a loser wasting his time unless he is going to be a strong G. Somehow I doubt you are in that category.

      1. Without going into specifics, it is possible. (And yes, I realize that sounds silly.)

      2. I don't know what your definition of "strong G" is, but I most likely have the potential to be a "G" if I put in the time. (study) I've been told this by multiple GM's.

Haha of course they did... everyone gets told that.

Wow you must not have a job or any career prospects to be considering chess as a career. My sympathies go out to your family.

          Ummm...

Who said I am considering chess as a career? If I could reach the GM level it would be a great accomplishment. I approach it from that side. A number of GM's are not "professional chess players." At the very least, I should be able to make IM within the next year or two.

Am I going to be in the top 10? No. But that isn't my goal.

I used to play at ItsYourTurn.com but I haven't played Chess there in quite some time. I still play a some Othello/Reversi there. Anyone in here play Othello/Reversi? I consider myself fairly good although I don't play nearly as much as I used to. If anyone's up for a game let me know.

Chess is the only game I really ever got into, John.

I know most of you here are younger than me, but does anyone remember the old AVON aftershave bottles? In the 70's, AVON put aftershave in glass bottles with different themes, cars, guns, shit like that. But they did a whole set of chess pieces. My dad collected the whole set & kept them for years.

A few years ago he had a friend of his build him a chess table for 'em. It's pretty fun to play on. I'm goin up there in a little while, I'll take a pic of it & post it in here.

Yahoo.com. I think thats the best site for recreational chess. It has got a very nice user interface. I used to play chess a lot few years back at Yahoo. I had reached level 1900 there from 1200. But once you reach 1800-1900 levels, you will mostly see bots there....bots are chess machines. So, after I reached 1900, i stopped playing there...also my work started getting hectic. So, haven't played in 2 years or so. But have been following the latest World Chess Championship. Its really exciting and the last game is tomorrow.

I prefer backgammon. There's no dice in Chess. No dice, no fun!
