    Who plays chess?
I haven't played online in a quiet while. Never really could get into it. Can someone suggest what they think is the best online chess site with forums maybe.

I just need to get back in the swing of it, haven't even played a game in 4 months.

        Chessclub.com or playchess/chessbase

There is probably a 50/50 I am the highest rated player in this entire joint.

If you want some forums or something consider chess.com

I haven't looked in a while, but there was quite a bit of info on there. It might be fee based now, though.

thanks alot. I'm just lookin' to play some with some different people. If you get locked into playing 1 or 2 people all the time it messes your focus up. I taught my girlfriend how to play about 3 years ago, and friends would come over in the summer and we would get hammered drunk & play & she caught on by playing & watching me, a very fast learner. After about 6 months of playing 5-6 games a day she was very hard to beat. People who played her thought she had been playing for years.

We broke up about 7 months ago & I just haven't played much. I've played my dad a few times since, but he is really fukin good, you have to really keep in practice to beat him with any consistency, or at all for that matter

I obviously don't know your level or locale, but there is a good chance that a chess club is located near where you reside. I like playing OTB much more than online. When you reach a high level, the game becomes work-like, but I still have plenty of passion/love for the Royal Game.

I know plenty of people who play, I just need to freshen up a little. I'm not a professional by any means, Id say Im a little above average, not even that at the moment. I have been alot better in the past, but like anything else, you get rusty. I've been playing for about 20 years, but there has been times i didnt play much in that span.

Yahoo! games do a decent job... They keep stats for you and everything and all you need is a Yahoo! account.

The way you talk about chess you are definitely not the highest rated player on SBR. Once you get your ICC rating to 2500 range then we can talk.

Prophet, any site will work for you. All you need are opponents. The only things that matter after that are:

                                      - cost
                                      - do you like the layout

So shop around. Don't go to ICC (www.chessclub.com) unless you are serious enough to pay ~$50/year. Same thing for playchess.com, though if you want to pay I would recommend ICC.

A free one similar to ICC is FICS (www.freechess.org). If you're not a top level player you will find plenty of competition there.

                                      Other random places:
                                      games.yahoo.com

whatever else a google search tells you

It is costless to try many different ones so find one you like. Forget chess forums. If you want to learn, get chess books from the library or read articles online. Forums are a waste of time, I never spend any time on them.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Unless he is an (IM) or (GM) I am not outclassed. So far, he has given no indication that he is either. A 2500 ICC rating is fairly common.

Might want to take some grammar lessons.

                                                  "ignore this post please math"

That means you are telling math to ignore the post. You put the subject behind the verb. I apologize for being unable to interpret your gibberish. And btw, I mean no offense.

I said I am not a professional, you fuks. You guys have started a fight telling people they aren't worth a shit over me asking a simple question. You guys are a trip LoL!!!

I am a recreational player, I am better than your average player on the street, that's about it. It's just something I've enjoyed since I was a kid, my dad taught me & has taught several people through the years, a couple that has went on the gain honors in the chess and online chess community. I just never got into it that seriously because it doesnt pay the bills and I'm not that fukin smart.

If my dad had cared about it more he could probably have been a professional player. He has played an IM and a couple GM's from the west coast. The GM beat him 5 games straight before he won one, and dad was freaked out because he had never had anyone give him that kind of competition. It wasn't until dad won that he revealed he was a GM and a CA state champion
