When Oklahoma quarterback Caleb Williams announced his decision to enter the college football transfer portal, few, if any, speculated that Eastern Michigan would be his next stop.

Ha-ha, so much for amateurism.
If you're Williams, do you take it? I would!
Reasons for taking the $1Mill:
1) You're still young. Getting $1Mill into invested assets at AGE 20 is a great deal.
2) NFL scouting has shown that there's no (real) bias toward big teams. If you're good, they'll find you.
3) Against MAC competition, if he's as good as we think, he'll put up Video Game #s. Stock will rise.
He's a fool to dismiss. He should do it.
Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?

Oh, also there's the element of NFL being risky and no sure-thing:
1) What team you go to matters a lot.
2) Injury risk.
3) Bust risk. Often not tied to YOUR skill-level.
Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?

Yeah, I wonder how long before they realize they’re going to have to hire special advisers to teach young athletes what to do when they come in the money.
The NFL learned, NCAAF will too if they keep this up.

I don't believe there are really any rules anymore regarding NIL if this is legit
Eastern Michigan didn't offer him anything, Charlie Batch threw his company made an oral offer, which isn't encforceable.

Who didn't see this coming?? Georgetown and UConn will have decent football teams at this rate. It only takes getting a few and the whole team and program gets better.

For some players, merely because of age and dollar amounts, this will not end well.
Train wrecks are coming.

If boosters start spending $10 million on players instead of coaches, they will get a lot better results.

Correct. However we can assume that Williams has smart enough people to get the offer in a written contract.
And even though Eastern Michigan is not putting up the money, its really the wild west right now. People offering a million dollars to athletes to go to a certain school to play football. Its almost like we are back in the 80's
Colleges have shown historically they're willing to pay players to pay for their school.
This is all very convoluted and will get messy. Not necessarily for Williams but for college sports, NIL, and college atheltes in general

A NIL is a contract. It is not an offer.

NIL will lead to players getting paid because they cannot control the players. The only way you can control them is to get them under contract. College football is total free agency now. There has never been a league with total free agency because they cannot control players and movement.

So true.
Man have there been some disastrous coaching deals in the past.
There will bad player contracts too, but I think you're more right than wrong there.
