Not a lot. Many bettors take them to the cleaners. That's why it takes forever to get paid when you win.

Ask any Local Bookmaker. They'll tell you that a FEW players might have a winning Football season, mostly based on luck and running good.
Most bookies will tell you that they literally don't have one player who clears a consistent profit year-over-year. Not one.
Bookmaking is one industry where IF you have half a brain, it's very hard to Net a Loss over time. Have to be prepared to pay off on the in-frequent bad swings. Over time, Bookmaking profit is a function of Betting $$ booked.
