#72This thread took a ridiculous turn after the initial post.
The NBA and the Suns organization are using Cinco de Mayo and the recent immigration bill to reach out to a larger fan base, boosting revenue and interest in the playoffs. That's the extent of it. It's about more money, and no different than any other advertising campaign.Comment -

Very good, I agree with this. The owners and management of the Suns probably have no real interest in Hispanic people. They just want to generate more revenue.Comment -

#76Legally, actually. Grandpa came over by himself first, Worked hard and brought his family across a few years later. About forty years ago. And I am not concerned with those that came here 30 - 50 years ago, illegally. But it has gotten to the point where something needs to be done and it seems like whether you think the law is good, bad, most can agree that the border needs to be shut down...Crossing over illegally is truly getting off the on the wrong foot.
Give out a million green cards, Visas or whatever I don't care. Make em pay two grand for their two years of Health care, which they will gladly do, considering they often pay their "coyote" at least that much.
Going about issues the wrong way and not giving the will of the people it's proper due does lead to racism and such, and that is unfortunate...This whole issue is somewhat unfortunate, but again, I believe there is a lot we can agree on. But we must not be lead by strictly emotions, although I understand why people often are.Comment -

I don't like this law because it does nothing to shut the border down. Alot more could be done with less resources to nip the problem in the bud. I as an American, would not feel comfortable being profiled & having to carry papers to prove my citizenship of this country, as I know hispanic & mexican americans don't. It's uncalled for & doesn't solve anythingComment -

So, now when many cross the border, they still may come over wide eyed and ready to take advantage of this land of opportunity through hard work, only to find themselves in communities that look a lot like home, with people ( other immigrants, do gooders with political interests) showing them how to take advantage of the system...
And their kids are still prideful. Prideful to the point of shooting people when they look at them the wrong way.
So to sum it up what is unfortunate is the true racism all this can cause, and the lame accusations of racism when people are just trying to protect their communities.Comment -

First of all fu*k that racist bitc* who passed that law, someone should and will kill her for this. Hopefully Obama steps up and shuts her as* up and take away this stupid law. Arizona is more than 50% Hispanic and she wants to pass this racist law what a joke, there's going to be lots of riots and many cop killings because of all of this.
I'm glad to see the Suns respect the Hispanic community and they should keep the jerseys throughout the playoffs. Suns WIN big tonight.Comment -

#91If the Suns truly want to honor the diversity of the league, they should print part of tonight's program in Greek, part of it in Italian, part of it in Portuguese, part in Croatian, part in Russian, part in Spanish, part in whatever language it is they speak in Zaire, part in German, part in Chinese . . . you get my point.
I don't give a damn what athletes and sports personalities think of political issues.Comment -

There were little to no Mexicans in the US territories of the West after Mexico lost the Mexican-American War and the US annexed New Mexico, Cali, Arizona, etc. way back in 1848.
And they were the first ones here, therefore they have some intrinsic right or bondage to the land? lol The superior nation won out. You lost.
I like how you say Natives AND Mexicans because you don't even know how to classify yourself. On one-hand you will identify yourselves as "Natives" when favorable, and on the other, you will classify yourselves as "Mexicans" when favorable.
It goes: Spainiards --> Spaniards mix with Amerindians --> Mexicans
Natives, or "Mexicans" always blame US when it was Spain and then Mexico stole who first stole "their/their own land".Comment -

#101The fictional Aztlan territories north of the Rio Grande are nothing more than a Mestizo imperialist desire themselves !! America did NOT "come to" the Hispanics. It only came to the Indians.
All territories north of the Rio Grande were Apache. Now, before someone calls me a "racist" for using the word, mestizo.. see what wiki says. "In contrast to what was the general rule in the rest of North America, the history of the colony of New Spain was one of racial intermingling (mestizaje). Mestizos quickly came to account for a majority of the colony's population; however, significant numbers and communities of indÃgenas (as the native peoples are now known) survive to the present day.
The TRUTH is that there is NO LEGITIMATE "hispanic" claim for anything north of Mexico,
AND THERE NEVER WAS.

#105Los Suns Profitability?
I wonder how much the jerseys may affect the game outcome. I personally think that Phoenix and a lot of the nation will use the jerseys to catapult into a strong win over the spread. Many people will cite it as a "feel good story" for the NBA and multiculturalism in general. With the balance in team stats, home court advantage and the "lets all get along" jerseys I call Phx to cover the spread and probably win by 10. I personally just want to use the info to profit...that's the Canadian way baby! Cheers and good luck all.Comment
