Why Do YOU Post on the SBR Forum?
Either "mostly here" or "exclusively here."

My reason that's it's mostly here (98% of all the posts I may make on bettting forums) is that the major reason I - and I think most other people - go onlne to check sites like this is to obtain the best info on the offshores.

I mean, we're sending our bucks to what are primarily businesses, and bookies at that, who are located mainly in banana republics. Where corruption is not an anomaly, but a way of life.

And my feeling is that SBR is far and away the best site to know what's going on with books in these little countries that have our money. And probably the most effective in resolving player/book disputes. And the best ratings - tho of course they'll always be disagreements as to what book should get what kind of rating.

I'll post at the site that pays big attention to the most vital issues facing the offshore bettor.

A.) All of the reasons you listed.

B.) Very active, it is the only gambling board I post on, but I browse others. There are always new threads popping up, and content is always fresh.

C.) I believe the people behind SBR are honest, and I think for the most part their rating system is accurate. Sometimes you will find one that is arguably off but not by too much.

Drawbacks : One of the problems with the no deletion, and minimal mod interference standard is it allows people who are here that routinely harass other posters to run free for the most part. I think a new reasonable system should be set up to flush out 'repeat offenders', I know the techie guys are smart enough to keep them out.

And finally, the BTP contest seems to breed tons of people who have absolutely no interest in being part of the SBR community, and many try to jack up their post counts by posting crap.

Damn ritehook, I post for the exact same reasons you listed, only I couldn't have said it half as well! I used to be a pretty well known poster (if there's such a thing) at Cov***.com (which was kiddie shit-stirring heaven) and UltimateC*****.com back in the day, and slowly started posting here more and more. It eventually reached the point where this became the only place I posted, and I haven't looked back...

Crazyl that's a great point you make about the BTP contest creating posters who post just for the sake of posting. There's no doubt that the contest brings some undesirables around here

The lack of banning and censoring does not appeal to all. But I would rather put up with the cut-ups then having mods playing God. Therx end bettorsworld forums both tried controlling what could be said and both are suffering because of it.

To the extent I visit a gambling forum, it's this one because I figure anyone who frequents something like Rx is likely to be either less knowledgeable or less honest than the average poster here, given that forum's obvious bias toward crooked books that pay them and its censorship of posts that point this out.

Not everybody, of course, but I just expect a higher quality of discourse at a board that hides its agenda better.

                                                  Remarkably honest post.

In fact, the whole "Internet as a Quasi-Life" is a topic that the psychiatric and social studies professions have probably yet to explore in detail.

What Chano said about this and other sports betting sites can be applied as well to the tens of thousands all about gardening, fishing, hunting, relationships, cooking --- you name it, there's something there for everyone.

And if you post at more than one site re topic (not, say, two or three sports bet sites) then you likely have a problem of some kind, the "no-life" kind.

But I'm not sure that's necessarily a bad thing. It's communication, and we all need that. It's just a different kind of communicaton than we've had in the past million or so years. From grunting at each other to typing at each other.

Example: I asked this neighbor couple I know (mid-70s) why they didn't have a computer, that lots of older people did, etc.

The gent told me that a friend of theirs, around their age, got one a year ago "and now spends TEN HOURS A DAY on it!"

I agreed that that was excessive, and the guy should at leasst get exercise and take some breaks. But then I realized that this elderly couple really just sat around there house and looked out the window all day, snooping the immediate surroudings, in fact spying on neighbors.

                                                  That's a "life?"

I suspect their friend - after checking out the porn sites - found forums that interested him, and he was posting, talking to his new "virtual friends." And he found it fascinating.

Sure, it probably would be better if he went to the local Senior Center and made real friends. But perhaps they would not be as interested or articulate about his favorite topic(s) than his cyberfriends are. At least he's engaged, and isn't that what living is all about, being engaged, passionate about something?

Some folks mock heavy poster here, JJ Gold, but he seems passionate about what he does. Most people with "normal" lives are not half as passionate. He does have "a life," just divergent from the norms of past eons.

I have a horse playing friend (whom I recently introduced to the offshore betting world - he was driving every weekend 60 miles roundtrip to a satellite betting center). But altho a few years ago he learned how to use a computer, he refuses to buy one.

Reason? He gets so fascinated with all the information online (he's a heavy newspaper reader) "that if I had one at home I'd be spending all my time on it."

Huh? You have a phone at home, and on your belt. You spend all your time talking on it? All your time watching televsion?

The guy is saying that online is a drug, better keep it out of your house. (Ever hear of self-control?)

There is now no question that the Internet is a major revolution in human behavior. (Thanks, Al Gore!) There are endless surprises.

I sell sometimes on Ebay. A few years ago one of my buyers turned out to be a Hollywood actress, and I got talking to her - online of course.

I found her very interesting, and she emailed me her photo (it's also on a few of the movie websites). A beautiful blonde. I think, from an incident she described, now in her early 50s, but very striking.

She is not a big time actress but has had solid minor roles and credits in such as Desperate Housewives, NYPD Blue etc.

And she was coming on to me. ("Nicest guy on ebay" was the comment she made in the Feedback she'd left). I was, and still am, in a committed relationship (sort of) but I was very tempted. It was very flattering. But she was also a bit of a distance from me.

She told me she also hit the Singles sites and chat rooms. ("It's hard to find anyone half decent online," she once commented wearily).

I don't know - does this still busy and beautiful actress, living in Tinseltown (San Fernando Valley, actually) "have a life?"

Apparently, life on the Net was more real to this doll than the phony life in Hollywood. (BTW, she told me that almost all the Hollywood agents were gay.)

Me, I often work like hell, 12 to 15 hours a day. But usually only two-three days a week. The rest of the time I have some leisure, like today.

And becausse I bet foots and college hoops, I like reading and posting here when I can. I have a few freinds that do likewise, that are as interested in sports as a betting proposition, but they are not next door neighbors, and I see them rarely. So I "talk" to "friends" at this site. (The only place I post, btw, except maybe 3 or 4 a year at EOG)

Everyone should get adequate exercise, and not ruin their eyes by staring at the pc screen too long. (Right now the one I'm looking at is less than 18" from my face . .. . that can't be good, can it?)

But I don't know if talking online is the same as "not having a life." My gf doeesn't give a sh*t about sports, it would be like talking to a wall. I speed walk 3-5 times a week, so no prob there.

Some serious re-definitions are in order, re human behavior and the Internet. Sure, we all need real inteaction with others. But still, I'd rather a guy who can't get girls jack off while viewing Net porn than be out raping a woman on the streets.

Apologies for this marathon post. I just had a chance to read all the replies to my thread, and Chano's frank comments sparked a reaction.

Also It is flabbergasting to me how much i have learn since joining SBR out of this forum and emails i received from Bill early on in august.I was spared untold headaches and quite possibly financial ruin thanks the advices i got from Bill and all the SHARP guys on the forum, whom have been (and still are) quite generous with their invaluable advices, tips and warnings.I have been involve vicariously with sports betting since 1995-96 but more as a supplement for partying,"smoking"and euro-summer vacations than a business.I thought i had over the years learn plenty about sports betting and i did ...but nearly enough of what was need it in order to make this a career.Make no mistakes about it THIS IS THE BEST FORUM and THE MOST LEGITIMATE SPORTBOOK REVIEW SITE(bar none)!!!! There ISN'T ANOTHER WEBSITE OUT THERE WHERE YOU WILL FIND THIS KIND OF QUALITY and INSIGHTFUL sportsbooks discussions along with other conversations done by MATURE(for the most part),knowledgeable(for the most part),intelligent(for the most part) and pleasant(for the most part) MEMBERS as you will find on SBR!!
