that's news to me, i know plenty of people that spend at least an hour a week going to church, that's at least 50 hours more a year than i spend obsessing over a work of fiction (the bible).

i also have never seen an atheist fight to the death over religion, send their kids to fight "muslim extremists" etc etc

yeh but i know athiests that will post 2 or 3 hours of stuff online. Im a christian and i don't go to church and i don't believe anyone rose from the dead. You just dont see christians posting online trying to get approval of others like athiests do

the how the fukk are you a christian? If you don't believe what the bible says ect. how would you consider yourself part of that religion?

And I'm astounded that anyone on this forum believes in "god" and his teachings. He hates us we are gamblers. We've probably committed 100+ sins in his books...

I'm an Athiest and I don't think about religion much at all because it's pretty simple really; You want to believe in some god then prove he is there with evidence. No religion on earth that believes in some higher being has ever proven this and all the belief is just conjecture. Just because you want something to exist does not make it real.

That being said I think religions are a good thing because they are a coping mechanism for a big bad world. I support all denominations as long as they are based on love and tolerance. If believing in something (however wrong) helps people in a positive way I won't go out of my way to question their beliefs. I think Atheist proponents like Dawkins and Hitchens couldn't care less about people and only voice their opinions to flaunt their own academic egos. They do a disservice to all so called "normal" atheists out there and everyone brands as radicals just as bad as any other zealot because of their rhetoric.

mrmarket, i at first thought like you did (2nd paragraph) but then a friend of mine made me realize i was condoning downright lies that could be used to easily justify other wrongful acts. The bible has some positive, some negative and a lot of crazy. Overall I think we would be much better off without religion (even if there a lot of good religious people, those people would still be good/do good things without religion)

People need to have something to believe in. What type of religion or whatever else it is that brings them solice or gives them hope in something better doesn't really matter. All that matters for them is the fact that regardless of where they are at this point in their lives there is something after that will be better.

I think the world would be a better place if we were more accepting of others and their beliefs whatever they may be.

dude you dont have to believe EVERYTHING in christianity to be a christian, you can pick and choose what you want

no offense dude but wtf is this? Sure you can believe bits and tads of christian beliefs but if you only believe a portion of it I don't think I would personally consider you a christian, but you can call yourself whatever you want to I guess. Some things christians believe are fine with me, does that make me a christian? I don't think so. I would have to believe at least a great majority of their teachings 4 me to consider myself a christian.

Personally I guess I wouldn't want to BELONG to a religion where others in the religion believe im going to "hell" lol.

We don't know what's inside the earth, we don't know what's out in space or how big it is, anything about dimensions, or time, or even how long humans have been here, why we are here, what is existence, what is life ? what is death ? are our limited bodily senses and little peanut brains meant to really understand life ?
For me, I believe in Jesus and God 100% and have never even for a second not believed.

Ignorance is not bliss.....gambling is only mentioned once in the bible.....guards casted lots for Jesus's clothes after he died on the cross.......christians dont believe gambling is wrong....they believe people should be responsible with what they have.....if losing a wager means your family doesnt eat then that would be wrong

Amen brother..........Religion gets in the way of christianity.......Baptists dont have sex standing up because it looks too much like dancing and dancing is wrong in thier eyes.......Jesus loves everyone...even sinners......he said as he died "father forgive them for they know not what they have done".........free-will is a gift to everyone...we have the right to choose to believe or not.......If I am wrong and when we die that is it, nothing more, then so be it.......but if I am right and when we die the people who believe Jesus died to pay for all the sins of man get to go to Heaven and those who dont burn for eternity in hell......I will be in heaven.......
