Try using some sort of allergy decongestant and see if that helps at all.
This is very similar to what im going through at the moment, last time I smoked was about 3 weeks ago, after a week of not smoking I got a nasty cough, it was hard to sleep at night especially wen lying on my front, just constantly hacking up nasty mucus.

Now im past the cough but have blocked sinus above and around my left eye, taking decongestants for a few days now but no real improvement, im looking forward to when they do finally drain.

After all this though its made me hesitant to start up again, I just don't wanna go though this crap again.

Don't start again dude. It's too hard to quit and you're past the worst part.

I'm not saying that there are not tough time ahead but hang in there.

Stay away from triggers (things that make you crave a cig even more).

This guy was a smart guy. He smoked for a long time and look what he had to announce to the world:

I quit 8 years ago .. cold turkey ... my second attempt (1st try I quit for two years and then started again) still get cravings every now and again ... if someone told me I would not die of a smoking related disease - i'd start again tomorrow.

E-cigs deliver nicotine without all the killer chemicals and give the sensation of smoking without the nasty mouth and smell of smoke

(I'm not positive but I think that while it's possible to overdose on nicotine,it's use in moderation will not kill a person)

cigarettes were amazingly easy to give up for me after discovering these,

for those not really looking to quit smoking but instead a more pleasurable virtual smoking experience I highly recommend trying an E-cig

also do some homework on quality of devices, since they are not popular there are some cheap outfits looking for a quick buck

I, too, have noticed that I cough when I quit and not cough much when smoking. I think your posting here has helped me understand why. And, for that, I thank you. And I wish every smoker much luck in quitting this very bad and terrible habit.

My cook's mom is lying in the next room about to die any moment from cancer and she has smoked since 14, now 67. She smoked up to 4 packs a day until this cancer struck her functionality just a month ago. It is so hard to watch her demise and suffering right now. She cannot do anything for herself currently. Many people in my life have died from complications due to smoking, yet I haven't learned my lesson.

I am most likely going to pay the price for my lack of strength also in due time.
