SBR: You dropped the ball on bash registration

In reality - although the 4,000 post count requirement wasn't used this year, the same number of travel reimbursements were provided. We even modified the join date requirement to allow those loyal posters that have registered before January 1st 2009 to be eligible. I think what people are upset about is how much more quickly the reimbursements flew off the shelf this year (under 24 hours). That can be attributed to the forum's growth.

And as stated in this post, we still plan to do contests and offer other fun ways to receive travel reimbursement, room upgrades, a limo from the airport to the hotel.

Absolutely. The problem is that some well known regulars who log in on a consistent basis found (on their first viewing of the "claims" thread) that all 50 of the travel reimbursements were already gone.

Last year I think it took a few days, so basically all the regulars had a shot at signing up.

The $300 is not a big deal for me since I can afford the airfare and pay for my own hotel room but the way the SBR Bash sign up thread went without a prior notice and practically being a free for all regardless of poster loyalty is not sitting very well with the loyal posters. I think it sends the wrong message but since it is still a FREE event SBR choses to allocate the reimbursements to whoever they feel signs up faster. One thing I can see already happening is cancellations from loyal posters who thought they would get some kind of reimbursement for their airfare. And yes many people like myself can afford the airfare but don't forget that many can't so for many loyal posters is a dealbreaker.

I have to agree with this. Hell, I've been here almost 3 years and 4700 posts, but I'm not exactly a huge contributor and I don't think any posters really know who I am, so even I almost feel bad about taking one of the travel reimbursements. I think by setting the standard so low they're encouraging non-contributors to take a free trip to Vegas and skip all of the SBR functions.

Either way, no complaints from me and I'm really looking forward to making the trip and meeting you guys this year.

Those guys will be in good shape for the next one. Norm wasn't Norm at Cheers until he was coming for a while, no matter how fast he drank the beer. Anyways, hopefully coming for a FREE first class event and meeting everyone is reason to come and these guys don't need a freebie flight to party with us.

I am extremely disappointed. To get free airfair, the requirments are register before jan1 09 and have 250 posts or higher!?? The old rules were 4k posts. Isnt this to bash to reward your LOYAL posters? Basically, you screwed any loyal posters who couldnt be on the forum today...and now they got left in the dark. You should of had a 4k+ post requirement to reward your LOYAL posters. Lets review some of the "loyal posters" who got free airfare

These are just the guys under 1,000 posts. Who has heard of 95% of these guys? Instead guys like BobbyFK and TheLock get screwed (whom both have more posts then this whole list combined!!!!!)

well, last year it was either/or. Either you had 250 and a join date before 2008 or 4,000 posts.

I don't know who ended up with the 50 airfare slots last year, but I imagine some guys with sub 1,000 post counts took up a good portion.

I strongly encourage any of you who are considering skipping the bash because you missed out on the free airfare to reconsider. As a two time attendee who paid his own way both times I would like to say that it was completely worth it. I am, of course, grateful to be one of the first 50 to sign up this year. The SBR Bash is fantastic and has become a highlight of the year for me and I suspect others as well, and it is not solely because I have done well in the poker tournament the past two years. I know I am not a huge contributer to the site but I do participate when I think I have something at least marginally relevant to say. I guess I am just not that talkative. That said, I visit the site pretty much everyday, I participate in many of the contests and I have funded accounts with several SBR sponsors. I guess I am saying that there is more to it than the number of posts. People are a part of the community in different ways. My biggest point however, if that the SBR Staff puts on an amazingly generous and classy bash and I encourage EVERYONE who can attend to come on out.

Last year the requirement was a join date of on or before January 1st 2008, and/or 4000 posts to qualify for travel reimbursement (to the first 50 signup's).

This year the requirement is a join date of on or before January 1st 2009 and 250 posts. Everyone that couldn't get in last year due to join date cutoffs was eligible this year for the travel reimbursement provided they had 250 posts.

As for those posters that had 4000 posts and registered after the cutoff date for this year (and missed one of the 50 travel reimbursement spots) - there's still going to be ways to win travel reimbursement via contests and other milestones. We will do a VIP upgrade package including travel reimbursement, a limo upgrade, etc for both those guys already registered and for those guys that didn't get the travel reimbursement.
