As you get older things will shock you, people you know will overdose even die from drugs do not be one of them. Keep them at an arms distance meaning realize these are people later in life you will need to leave behind not join. Can be difficult but do the right thing...

I can honestly say I will never do any hard drugs. I appreciate all the advise. The way I see it if I have made it through years of parties with coke everywhere, being offered it, etc and still said no then I can say no as long as I need to. Weed still gives me a great high and fortunatley in this area we get some of the best stuff in the area. I still get as high as I need too. Weed, liquor, and gambling give me enough of a high. I don't need that other shit.

These two guys just got out of rehab. The one I am closer with moved to Cali back in September but now is back for a while but we kept in touch. However, even though they are out of rehab they are still smoking weed and picking up tons of Xanax. I don't really know if they have done the other stuff yet but hopefully they can stay free of that. Just going to try to talk to them and show them the light. If that doesn't work, there is not much more to be said.

I have worked at a homeless shelter for the last 10 years. Pretty much everything ice, illini, jj and others are saying is true. Once people get a taste of that shat, it's like they turn down a street and can never get back on the right track. Only thing you can do, if you are friends with them, is to get in their face and physically stop them. After 1-4 weeks of yelling at them, and they still continue doing it all the time, drop them. Everything that surrounds H is bad. They will ask for you money every time they see you; they will knock on your door and call you at 2-6am any day of the week. They will remember you at some point and find where you live and try to break in an steal stuff: anything valuable, especially you check book and jewelry.
Like a band-aid, rip that crap off ASAP, and never look back.

I remember a few years ago I saw this truly saddening story about Heroine on Asia TV. In the program, a widower, who has just lost his wife to Heroine addiction, decided to show the world that you can be cured from Heroine if you have a strong mental fortitude. His reasoning is that no matter how addictive it is, he would think of his wife and quit the addiction.

Well long story short, he failed and od'ed 2 years after his wife's death.

my general rule is that the majority of ppl that have to go to rehab to quit anything probably go back....everyone i know that ever had a problem with anything the ppl that quit on there own the ppl that stay away
