How Does The Bengals Coach Keep His Job?
Marvin Lewis, please report to the Principal's office.

He deserves detention, a 2 week suspension, and then expulsion. Simply because he sucks, has always sucked, and will continue to suck if left in charge of that horrible team.

Good question, but maybe because it would be racist to fire him.

No different from Jason Garrett. When the owner loves you...winning doesn’t matter

At any given time in NFL & NBA ( no idea re. NHL), at least 2/3 of the head coaches are in way over their heads and have zero chance of any sustained success.

Ginger Garett getting a coaching award is simply an outlier in that everything fell into place for that team so he gets a nod.

Fire Lewis, and who replaces him? Some recycled bozo?

                  Consider the following:
–The Bengals blew a 17 point lead.
–The Steelers got the ball at their own 17 and 26 seconds to go in the half and scored.
–Cincy committed 13 penalties for 173 yards, the new franchise record.
–AJ Green had a ridiculous 61-yard catch and run touchdown brought back by a hold on Gio Bernard.
–William Jackson stood and watched Le’Veon Bell tear down the sideline for a touchdown, saying he knew Bell was out of bounds, when he wasn’t.
–Andy Dalton’s 1st half: 173 yards, two TDs and a rating of 120.4. In the 2nd half: 5-for-13 for 61 yards. At home.
–Ben Roethlisberger’s numbers in the 4th quarter: 13-for-19, 131 yards and a touchdown. On the road.
–The Bengals’ numbers in the 4th quarter: Zero first downs, three minutes time of possession. At home.
–After Pittsburgh tied it up with 3:51 to go, Cincinnati went: AJ Green drop, 8-yard run, sack, punt.

The missed tackle by William Jackson may have been the dumbest football play ever (except for maybe Leon Lett).

I think a Bengals fan on here said it, and it makes perfect sense.

Mike Brown, the owner, is perfectly happy getting the team to the first round of the playoffs most years and nothing more. I don't know how this adds up, but he makes plenty of money doing this, and doesn't have to try and build a championship team. That's why he doesn't get rid of Marvin Lewis, a coach that will never get them to that level.

Sounds ridiculous, but it made a lot of sense when he said it.

His contract is up, so they would need to give him another extension if they wanted to keep him.

I mean at this point if they bring him back you have to start questioning what dirt he has on the owner.

                          This.

Bengals ownership has always been 2nd rate and cheap. No way would they pay 2 head coaches at the same time. Lewis' tenure in Cinnci will end after this season and the Bengals will still suck. Can't win with Dalton. He is a loser.

Just two years ago they were the best team in the league, if Dalton does not break his hand the Bengals would of won it all.

Winning 8 or 9 games a year, staying relevant, is sometimes considered good enough.

He has never had the league's best QB or RB, so you can't hold his teams upper middle true play against him, and when you're in a division with Pittsburgh and Baltimore, both of whom have gone to multiple super bowls in the past decade, based primarily on all pro quarterbacks and world class defense, you can't blame Lewis. He is finishing second consistently in a division where his is the 3rd best team at best annually.

That said, if they wanted to win big in Cinci they'd bring in an innovator and would probably have a few really down years. Would the fan base still buy tix or show interest in the team if they were 3-13? He's consistently the best team in Ohio....Mike Brown can always point to Cleveland and say "hey, at least were not Cleveland"

Lewis should have been fired years ago, but as a guy who grew up just outside Pittsburgh, I'm not unhappy the Bengals have been mostly a picture of mediocrity. The Bengals play the way they're coached — with no direction.

Garrett should probably be fired he's 64-52 in 7 seasons and 1-2 in the playoffs. marvin lewis is on a whole different level the boy is 123-111 over 15 seasons and 0-7 in the playoffs 15 years and 0 playoff wins is beyond pathetic.

A new coach won't take them to the next level until they have a QB that can win games against teams with a winning record. This organization is one of the worst in the league when it comes to personnel decisions.
