If the guy couldn't afford a pay out of $4,000, your friend had no bussiness playing with the guy anyway.. He was not really even a bookie, a true guy will just pay and think of how he will get it back over the next few games.. Locals are fine, just do your homework first..
Where i'm from, they probally are a few shady ones around, but they are also several reputable ones also.. With a little checking, a local is the way to go..

Wassup boys, so I wake up, check my phone and get this text message from my buddy at college. He goes to Penn St. and as a local out there. He has been using this guy for about 9 months now. Every other week payments and not 1 problem yet. The most in 2 weeks he has lost was $1300 and paid, the most he won in 2 weeks was $1000 and got paid.

Going into yesterday, he was down $165.22. So, I get the text and it just says, **** LOCALS and to check me email. I check my email and there is a list of texts my buddy sent to local of all is bets yesterday, my buddy went 20-3 betting yesterday. 20-3

He listed all his games w/ current figure next to them after the result

Guy texts him after late game and says he is not paying this ridiculous day. He bet too much money for his limit and some of those ML were ridiculous bets and what happened if he lost them.

So they go back and forth and in the end, I guess my friend says he is getting STIFFED of the money he won.

They had a great working relationship never having problems, then BOOM, dude goes 20-3 and had day of his life and gets STIFFED.

I live in a relatively small town & there's not alot of bookies. I have used the same one for years & you all have seen me speak highly of him here. You have to do your homework when picking a bookie & same goes for the bookie when allowing new players.

I started running parlay cards years back during football season & it led into me running a good size booking operation. My bookie that is solid as a rock only takes players on reccomendation from other players & it's a real well run machine where everyone is vouched for for a probationary period.

When I started bookin it just kinda happened. People who were playin parlay cards with me would call me on sat morn & wanna play, thinking I was a full operational bookie. I started taking their plays & laying off anything I didn't wanna hold to my man or offshore. After a couple months I was up & runnin' & never looked back.

I had a couple guys who tried to stiff me. But I had a reputation in town that I paid on time & you were gonna pay me on time. If someone was a little short I had no problem as long as they called & paid me a little & Id get the rest later. It's when people dodge me that I get pissed. If I owed them they'd expect me to answer my phone & meet them, I expect the same.

I used to run most my shit out of a bar. One guy I had seen in there a couple times played some parlay cards & wanted to know if I'd take some straight bets. Older guy, late 40's, early 50's. Dressed nice. I told him sure. This was on Fri night. On Sat morn he called & played some straight plays & a few more sat afternoon. Sun played the same on NFL. Was down about $250. No big deal. I told him to meet me at the bar Tuesday & I'd have new cards & he could pay me then, no problem.

The dude never showed, he would answer the phone & make every excuse in the world, but of course it was nothing to do with not having the $250-300. Then after about 4 days he doesn't answer his phone. I make a phone call & find out where he lives & show up at his door. This guy lives in a trailer park with his old ass mother & doesn't have a pot to piss in. He wants to pay me with a check. He had to get his mother to sign a check from her account. Probably her social security for that month.

I told him If I ever caught his ass out anywhere drinking or gambling his 70 year old mothers fukin check away I would fukin throw his ass in Boone Lake & not to ever show his face at the bar again under any circumstances because I would find out before he could get out of the parking lot If I wasnt there.

I felt so bad for that old woman that she had raised such a piece of shit that is 50 years old & cant pay a $250 gambling debt. From then on if it was someone I didn't know of by acquaintance I would require a deposit. Just $200. Some people would look at me like I was fuked up. They'd say they want to play maybe $500-$1000 a week, not $200. I'd say that's fine. I'll put you on a $1000 weekly credit with $250 play. But if they couldn't produce me $200 to start them an account I'd tell them to go fuk themselves. If they don't have $200 in the bank or in their pocket they are playin on scared money & they can't pay me that or more when they owe me & they are gonna get hurt.

Its sad but in all honesty there is nothing he can do to recover his winnings except try and talk to the book and get him to come to his senses. I had the same book for my 4 years of college, connected guy and the best one I have ever come across, it did not matter how much I was up I always got paid (18k on week) and vice versa I paid him always on time. I would always meet him and his girl Tuesday night for drinks and dinner and bring a date along with me, we would exchange cash at the bar before we went to our table and then would just have a fun night of drinks and dinner every Tuesday without the topic of booking or money ever coming up during dinner. Therefore I do not agree with Sammy's advice about playing offshore is better because this was by far the best book I have ever had and had no worries in the world of getting paid, regardless the amount. We built a solid relationship and became good friends so there were no worries on either end. After I finished college and moved to a new area I had 2 different occasions where I got ****ed over by books, one was for around 6k and the other for around 2k, but as I stated there was really nothing I could do unless I wanted to go to jail for beating the **** out of the guy or hiring muscle to take care of it for me, it still would have came back to me. You just have to chalk it up as a loss and a learning experience and when playing with a new local, keep it small at first until you build up a solid relationship. I feel bad for the guy that's getting screwed out of the 4k because I have been there but just take it as a lesson learned and move on so you don't cause yourself more problems.
