Gary Kubiak To Miss Next Week's Game
Los Angeles (AFP) - Super Bowl-winning Denver Broncos coach Gary Kubiak has been given a week's leave after being hospitalized for a complex migraine condition, the team said on Monday.
Kubiak, who guided Denver to the Super Bowl in February, was taken to a hospital on Sunday after the Broncos' first defeat of the season, against the Atlanta Falcons.
The 55-year-old remained in hospital early Monday and will be excused touchline duty for Denver's game against San Diego on Thursday, team manager John Elway said. Special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis will fill in for Kubiak against the Chargers.
"He will be back (next) Monday," Elway told a press conference.
A Denver statement said Kubiak had been given an MRI and CT scan after experiencing "flu-like symptoms" after Sunday's game.
"Coach Kubiak was diagnosed with a complex migraine condition that caused extreme fatigue and body weakness. He received medication and is feeling much better with an expected release from the hospital this afternoon," the Broncos said.
The health scare comes three years after Kubiak became ill during a match against the Indianapolis Colts. On that occasion he was diagnosed with a mini-stroke and spent two nights in a hospital.
