why do college basketball teams suck so much a FT%

I love college hoops... but i do agree it is pathetic how bad they are at free throws.

lol, i'm gonna have to try shooting some free throws at the gym tonight, using the backboard. might be interesting..... but alot more difficult IMO

let's all watch SC and count the number of FTs that make the highlights. what ever happened to the mid-range jumper? lay-ups, dunks and 3 ptrs.

There was a study done about free-throws compared to race: average white guy shoots 79%, while average black person shoots 67%.

What color was Chris Dudley? or Andres Biedrins? I think Dudley was a rhodes scholar so I'm not sure you can equate concentration or smarts to shooting the ball

The fact is that it's hard to hit a free throw when thousands of screaming fans are waving and shouting and your tired just like it's hard to kick a FG (most NFL kickers are white, what's their excuse?)

again I don't like the FG kicking comparison for a number of reasons...

for instance no one can block your free throw and physically hit you in the process. and you don't rely on the ref to "snap" you the ball, and your pg to hold it or anything.

but mostly I don't like this analogy, because. shooting free throws is somthing that just about every sbr poster can do. and many of us can do it better than athletes that are getting 75,000+ of free education for it.

I don't think any of us here, can kick field goals at a better % than college kickers.

this is why we get frustrated by it. because many of us in our past were better at this one facet of the game, and know that it can be practiced and improved easily. just no excuse for shooting 60% or less from the line.

you do have guys like Dudley that just are gonna suck no matter how much they practiced and consulted the "shot doctor" but by in large, there is a large room for improvement with a pretty small amount of extra practice... and its in an area that constantly WINS AND LOSES big games

as long as the backboard is glass and the ball is properly inflated, all you have to do is aim for the sweet spot toward the top of the box and keep it straight.
no ball spin.

i think the one loss and done as well the adreniline seems to put too much pressure and therefore the more missed freethrows near the end of the game
