#31. Have a decent sized bankroll
2. Have the modesty to learn from veterans early in your career and beyond
3. Have at least 5 outs, with Matchbook hopefully being one of those
4. Stay focused, disciplined, relativiely modest(some ego is needed), and work hard
5. Be a contrarian---–noun a person who takes an opposing view, esp. one who rejects the majority opinionComment -

Let me state, there are many other components that will determine one's success in this business..........how well each of us applies the above recommendations as well as others I did not mention will determine how much profit or loss one will attain.
Let me state, there are posters here that accomplish all these things far better then me, and the result is they will attain more profit at the end of the calender year then I probably will..........even though in all liklihood I will show a profit(cross fingers), hopefully enough of one to pay the bills and have a little extra spending money on the side. If not, I will be looking for a loan from the successful rich people here at SBR, which probably includes you Corbin.Comment -

#5find it hard to argue with any of those. just working on the BR part.
#5 has been a part of my signature (read below) since i joined SBR. but it is funny how much resistance you meet on SBR when you do bring up an idea that runs opposite what most people believe or were taught.Comment -

SBR taught me a valuable lesson about shopping for the very best lines.
Having 5 outs is great advice.Comment -

#20To be successful I think more than 5 outs are needed.
Matchbook is a great tool but it provides a minuscule amount of my profit.
The most valuable point is always learn, not just from veterans, but from anyone.
I am assuming the "hoping to win enough to pay the bills" was tongue in cheek. Nobody should endeavor to do this unless they know they will. Always have a fallback until you KNOW what you are doing. I did not leave my 85K a year job until it was costing me too much money to go to work.Comment -

#22the ability to find strong plays and only play strong plays. Even if this means betting 2 times a week.
the ability to be relaxed and focused is also an asset.(before, during and after a win/loss)Comment
