Why don't teams have a game theory coach
Falcons kicked a field goal on 4th down on the 1 with about 3:00 left in the game...

Going for it would have given Atlanta a 48.6 percent win probability. A field goal attempt would have given them a 27 percent win probability.

    Good choice

Mike Smith would have gone for it. Even Jim Mora Jr and why not Dan Reeves.

Barabbas would have gone for it, too.

And daner... NFL coaches have no clue what game theory is; guys like Andy Reid know a good soft Pretzel, but think Prisoner's Dilemma is OJ's autobiography.

Head coaches like to play the game by feel. Head coaches are morons. Head coaches get fired quickly.

I've been saying this for years.

If I was an NFL head coach, or Big Brother player, I would hire Vanessa Rousso as my game theory coach.

            She's switched teams for good.

No amount of public fawning will ever bring you closer to your Selbst/Rousso fantasy sandwich.

            Move on, G

Simply due to your long-time fascination w/Vanessa... this question is begged:

Did you have *anything* to do with the guy on the left's untimely demise, G?

Many teams do not play to win and many coaches black out late in games I think it's an excellent idea

This job would be perfect for me, it should pay about 100k a year. guess Vanessa was brought up cause she studied game theory She min raises in poker tournaments. At least I saw her online doing that.
It may be a case of if you have to ask you'll never know, most coaches don't get it.
A classic example is when teams are up by 6 in the second half and don't go for 2.
Not going for it on 4th downs.
In poker when I play people just bet their draws, then they get there. And then I break even.
For instance I flop a straight, other guy bets, I go all in, player calls rivers flush.
So the next game I flop a straight, guy leads out with a bet. I just call this time. Then he hits his flush on the turn.
No matter how i play the other player hits the cards too often for me to profit

If you get it in as a 58% favorite 100 times, you make money. Same way the casino makes billions. They just do this same scenario at an extremely high rate. This is why bankroll management is always key.

It's because Head coaches have huge egos and don't think they need a game theory coach

They also stupid things like challenging a few feet on a spot on like 2nd and 8 from the 35 yard line in the 1st quarter. Good job guy, you just risked a timeout and challenge that could be worth a whole lot more later

This was just moronic. Your down 4 with under three minutes with 4th and goal on San Fran's 3 yard line.

Assuming your gonna get a three and out and then go 50-60 yards with no timeouts with under 1 minute just to set up a potential game winning field goal?

                                Absolutely retarted decision.

Worse than Miami's clock management at end of first half in Buffalo. Which was pre-school like.
